NVA was founded in 1996 by Stanley Creighton, DVM, with an emphasis on supporting local medical standards as established by individual hospitals and practitioners. He believed that veterinary medicine is best practiced when veterinarians craft their own hospital and community specific strategies for high quality patient care and client services. The vision continues at NVA as we make available the tools and resources for hospitals to achieve their medical goals while avoiding any single standardized national plan that might not be the best fit for an individual hospital. The variety of tools and resources we provide include emerging research and care standards, access to our national medical database, human resource guidance, marketing support, recruiting assistance, tax preparation, and training and education for staff. Managing veterinarians decide what level of medicine they would like their hospital to achieve, and NVA provides the support to get them there. ©

Pros of working at National Veterinary Associates

Not really NVA's accolade to receive, but my team is wonderful. When hounded enough, the company will provide good equipment.

Cons of working at National Veterinary Associates

The amount of pay each team member in a hospital makes is a joke. Front line members - doctors, techs, CSRs - who are putting in more work than anyone at corporation level and of course are being paid in scraps comparatively. Constantly told by management that "we aren't hiring more staff" despite obviously being burnt out and short staffed for the amount of work being crammed into one day. Furthermore, it appears management has adopted a watering-down technique when referring to abusive client behavior, where instead of calling it abusive, they call it "being sassy." Not beating the toxic management allegations in that way. I, as one of the frontline workers mentioned above, have stuck up for my team more genuinely and vehemently than the manager ever could.

What do you like best about National Veterinary Associates's CEO and the leadership team?

Nothing - their two-faced nature preaches care for the team but their actions portray motifs that lie in the "maximize profit" margins.

How would you improve National Veterinary Associates's culture?

Pay your employees more. Plain and simple. You have the money.

How did you prepare for the National Veterinary Associates interview?

Bringing my skills and determination to the table and working as hard as I believe I am worth.

How does your compensation at National Veterinary Associates compare to the industry average?

Middling to low, but NVA has the power to pay above the industry average. There is simply no excuse for capping our pay due to some meaningless industry standard.

What's the diversity at National Veterinary Associates like?

Shallow, but present.

What brings you the most joy at National Veterinary Associates?

Working with my team (not NVA - the ground team in clinic) to solve problems throughout the day.

The hospital team at my location was amazing, practicing excellent medicine and supporting a great culture.

Cons of working at National Veterinary Associates

The management from NVA was not great- all about the numbers, and poor benefit offerings for such a large company. Also no annual reviews.
