Performs basic supportive care to specified patients and families under the direction and supervision of an RN or Care Manager. Collects, documents, and reports data to the RN or Care Manager.
Job Description:
Essential Functions:
Collects, documents, and reports vital signs. May complete screening questions and documentation or minor specimen testing as assigned.
Promotes general patient safety. Holds and positions patients and assists with procedures. Prepares materials and supplies as delegated.
Remains compliant with HIPAA, maintains professionalism, and ensures confidentiality of patient information.
Ensures environmental standards are met and all unit and patient areas are stocked, cleaned, and maintained.
Performs clerical and administrative tasks as necessary.
Completes continuing education and participates in offered educational opportunities. May act as a preceptor and train other staff.
Education Requirement:
Completion of fundamentals course from an approved nursing program, or equivalent licensure or experience, required.
Licensure Requirement:
Active State Tested Nurse Aide License in the State of Ohio, or equivalent education or experience, required.
Certifications:
Current CPR certification (BLS for healthcare provider), required.
Skills:
Effective written and verbal communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Must demonstrate competence as defined in the PatientCareAssistant responsibilities/skills checklist in providing age appropriate care and services to pediatric patients of all ages and selected adult patients.
Displays a positive presence and interacts with patients, families, staff, outside vendors, consultants, and physicians.
Experience:
One year of patientcare experience in a hospital setting within the last three years, or equivalent education or licensure, required.

Demonstrates strong communication skills, accepts delegated tasks and has the knowledge and understanding to ask questions and report patient information as indicated. Appropriately handles patient information understanding confidentiality and privacy. Complies with the safety management program designed to provide a physical environment free of hazards and to reduce the risk of injury. Is knowledgeable about and responsive to the mission of the hospital. The PCA promotes a patient and family experience-oriented environment and acts as a change agent to meet the rapidly changing census and needs of all customers-both internal and external.
CPR - BLS certificate is required within 2 weeks of hire
Department Specific Job Details:
The PCA II delivers basic patientcare, provides comfort measures, maintains patientcare environment, and reports patient responses to nursing interventions. The PCA II is a member of the Collaborative Practice team and renders care in accordance with the Standards of Care and Standards of Practice. It is essential that all nursing tasks performed by trained unlicensed assistive personnel be done under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The delegating licensed nurse retains accountability for the delegation and the outcome of the task (Ohio Revised Code -- ORC, Section 4723.28) The PCA II is responsible for the accurate entering of physician orders into the appropriate computer systems and communication of orders to other Dayton Children's departments. The PCA II collaborates with the charge nurse or relief charge nurse to facilitate coordination of activities on the unit. The PCA II interfaces with and maintains open communication with nursing, physician, and other hospital departments. REQUIRED: High school diploma/GED, current CPR certification, PCA training or actively enrolled in a health care related education program, communications skills and customer service skills required.
