1980

1980 Founded in 1980 by Elliott Balbert, Natrol begins as a cosmetics company.

1982

1982: Natrol enters dietary supplements business with a natural weight loss product.

1986

1986 Natrol introduces its first major product, Ester-C, a highly assimilative form of vitamin C. Although FDA rules did not allow Natrol to promote Ester-C as a cure for the cold, common knowledge of the benefits of vitamin C supported sales of the product.

1990

In 1990 Natrol began to advertise on the radio show "Larry King Live." Another long-term success, Calms Kids, provided parents with a natural alternative to treating hyperactivity in children.

1993

By 1993 Natrol revenues increased to $9.5 million, garnering net income of $279,000.

1994

The Dietary Supplements Health and Education Act of 1994 had a profound impact on Natrol and the nutritional supplements industry.

1995

Revenues increased 95 percent in 1995, to $23.6 million on the strength of Melatonin sales, which accounted for $6.7 million or 28 percent of total revenues.

1996

In 1996 Natrol experienced a 73 percent increase in revenues to $40.8 million.

1997

Natrol introduced 30 new supplements in 1997, a total of 58 stock keeping units, including different quantities and tablet and capsule forms.

Laci La Beau added nine new teas in 1997.

1998

The July 1998 initial public offering of stock supported expansion.

1998 Natrol introduces ProLab Nutrition, Inc., specializing in sports nutritional products for body builders, athletes and the physically active.

1998 Natrol goes public launching an initial public offering (IPO) of stock.

Sales reached $68.2 million in 1998, garnering $7.5 million in net earnings.

1999

In February 1999 Natrol acquired Essentially Pure Ingredients (EPI), a provider of raw materials to supplement manufacturers.

In March 1999 Pure-Gar obtained exclusive rights to distribute MelaPure, pharmaceutical grade Melatonin by VitaPure Ltd. in the United Kingdom.

New products in 1999 included several herbal products, such as hawthorne berry, licorice root, damiana leaf, gotu kola, and ginger root supplements.

2000

The fickle nature of consumer trends dissuaded investors; in August 2000 Natrol's stock dropped to between $2.00 and $2.25 per share, despite the company's strong reputation in the industry.

Natrol reported an increase in sales in 2000, at $87.1 million; much of that increase was attributed to ProLab revenues after its first full year of operation as a Natrol subsidiary.

2000: Consumer interest in nutritional products begins sudden decline in demand.

2001

By January 2001, Natrol decided to reorganize the executive offices and to institute budget cuts and several marketing initiatives to improve sales.

Natrol continued to launch new products and to seek new outlets for them in 2001.

Difficulties in the supplements industry were reflected in Natrol's financial results for 2001.

2004

2004 Natrol upgrades bottling process to include a heat induction foil sealing system to provide longer shelf life by creating a barrier to oxygen and moisture

2006

2006 According to Information Resources Inc.’s (IRI) 52-week InfoScan that tracks dollar sales data, Natrol ranks #1 in sales of United States brand in Melatonin, Ester-C, DHEA and 5-HTP.

2006 Natrol acquires NuHair and Shen Min, natural dietary supplements designed to help reduce hair loss and enhance hair growth in men and women.

2006 Natrol founder, Elliott Balbert, receives a Lifetime Achievement award from the Nutrition Business Journal, a leading organization in the natural products industry

2009

2009 Natrol launches Immune Boost, a product that supports a strong immune system using the clinically tested super food EpiCor®.

2010

2010 Natrol innovates as one of the first companies to introduce Fast Dissolves (edible tablets that dissolve in the mouth without water) to the mass market.

2011

2011 Natrol receives Good Manufacturing Practices GMP certification through NSF International and remains certified today.

2017

2017 Natrol updates its entire line of products with new package design for all vitamins, minerals and supplements.

2017 Natrol launches Cognium®, a breakthrough in brain health, Natrol Cognium is powered by a unique ingredient backed by human clinical studies that show statistically significant improvements in memory and recall in healthy adults, in as little as four weeks.†

In 2017 Natrol International’s Business Development Team serviced over a hundred customers in more than 60 countries around the world.

2018

2018 Natrol is recognized by Vitamin Angels as a Top Donor for their organization.

2019

2019 Demonstrating that Natrol is one of the leading companies in its category in the US, they obtain the highest standard of nutraceutical certification with new USP accreditations for Melatonin and Biotin.

2020

2020 After months of dedicated team work to meet new NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) audit standards, Natrol is awarded an “A” for its manufacturing facilities.

2021

2021 Natrol Relax+™—a line of drug-free, non-habit forming Mood & Stress products—is introduced in the marketplace in three formulations: Day Calm, Night Calm and Ultimate Calm.
