Description of Work
This EnvironmentalSpecialist II position serves as a Regional Soil Scientist within the Division of Public Health, providing technical oversight and regulatory support to local health departments across the southeastern region of North Carolina. The primary function is to ensure consistent and scientifically sound implementation of state laws and rules governing on-site wastewater treatment and dispersal systems. The role involves training, authorizing, and advising Environmental Health Specialists, conducting site evaluations, and reviewing complex wastewater system proposals. Work is performed independently and requires expert knowledge in soil science, environmental health regulations, and decentralized wastewater technologies. The position also contributes to policy development, legal proceedings, and statewide program improvements.
Key Duties Include:
* Train and assess Environmental Health Specialist interns through classroom instruction, field exercises, and written examinations to determine readiness for delegation of authority.
* Authorize local Environmental Health Specialists to enforce state laws and rules governing on-site wastewater systems in accordance with statutory requirements.
* Provide technical assistance and second opinions to local health departments on complex site evaluations, permitting challenges, and malfunctioning wastewater systems.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), Northern Region has an exciting opportunity for an independent and highly motivated Environmental Scientist to work within the Coastal Fisheries Program. Under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), this position performs field research, data collection, data entry, data quality assurance and control, analysis, and report writing for fisheries investigations in the Trinity River basin and Department hatcheries. The position is part of the Departments Trinity River Project and involves coordination with other members of the Project and other agency or Tribal partners. This position offers the opportunity to work in remote wilderness areas of the Trinity River Basin. This position will actively participate in monitoring some of California's most iconic salmon species including spring and fall Chinook, Coho Salmon and summer steelhead. Incumbent will actively participate in sourcing natural area coho salmon broodstock for Trinity River Hatchery. Incumbent will represent the Department in dealings with local, State and Federal governmental agencies, Tribal partners, conservation groups and private landowners. Area of geographic responsibility includes all nine Northern California counties that make up the Northern Region, however duties will be largely focused in Trinity County. Contacts made in the course of this work are highly sensitive and involve a wide degree of interests. The level of consequence of error in applying the best available scientific knowledge, technical information, and policy may have highly significant and adverse consequences for private landowners, various governments, the public, the Department, Tribal partners, and trust resources, among others.

Working Conditions
Ability to use a computer and standard word processing software. This is a field-oriented position that will be working in temperature extremes (25 -105 F), working in and around flowing water using wet/dry suits in rugged and remote areas. Use of 4-wheel drive and all-terrain vehicles, rafts, fisheries sampling equipment such as backpack electrofishers, seine nets, traps, etc. is required. The ability to lift 50 lbs. and swim 100 yds. unassisted is required. 50% of time will be spent indoors attending meetings, processing emails, phone calls, and documents; spend the other approximately 50% of time outdoors in rugged terrain, hot and freezing conditions, experiencing biting insects, and some overnight camping. Attend meetings and hearings, work with staff statewide to complete work assignments. Some travel is required. Work overtime as necessary. Required to wear a uniform as directed and in accordance with Department guidelines. Use of a state-owned vehicle for travel is required between remote facilities and field sites where public transportation is not readily available.

What You'll Do:
Starting pay for this position - $15.95 per hour
The Recreation Attendant-Naturalist will perform tasks generally related to Summer Nature Camp. They will assist Naturalists at the Environmental Center with nature activities and classes, assist with supervision of campers, help design and implement outdoor-based nature study, and perform various day to day assigned tasks to support and operate PEC's Summer Nature Camp.
Work is performed under regular supervision of the Parks Supervisor. Work schedule may include nights, weekends and holidays.
Essential Tasks & Responsibilities:
Assists PEC staff as needed; Assists with summer nature camps and other programs as needed;
Helps school-age children become familiar with nature through different activities;
Escorts children to daily activity sites when needed;
Cleans facility areas and assists in maintaining outdoor areas;
Maintains daily communication with supervisor;
Prepares lists of materials and equipment needed for activities and makes requests for same;
Enforces center policies and safety rules and regulations;
Plans nature activities related to environmental concepts and practice with the center's Naturalists;

As an Environmental Professional - Asbestos Specialist you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and collecting samples from suspect asbestos-containing materials located in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. Following the collection of samples, you will be responsible for preparing a written report detailing the findings of the inspection. Key Responsibilities:
Conduct asbestos surveys in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Identify and assess the condition of suspect asbestos-containing materials, either friable or non-friable, on the interior and exterior of buildings.
Collect samples from a representative number of locations in accordance with Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) guidelines and other requirements.

Summary: BLE's Greenville, South Carolina office is seeking a technically skilled Environmental Project Manager to support the expansion of our Environmental Services Department. * Supports program & project management for high visibility / large-scale projects, including project definition, assessment, permitting, data management, and compliance support.
* Manages the development, negotiation, and administration of environmental related contracts.
* Leads bid and proposal preparation for environmental opportunities, working closely with GES' operational and technical leaders applying GES' financial standards and operational processes to ensure highest quality GES submittals.
* Conducts sales presentations and informational seminars for potential clients, including participation in industry trade organizations, publication of thought leadership papers in technical publications and industry groups (i.e. ITRC, SURF, etc.)
* Generates leads and develops new business opportunities through networking of existing and prospect clientele and industry relationships
Requirements:
* Must work in a collaborative environment with other business development, sector, program, and operational leaders. Team Player mentality is essential.
* Willingness to travel as needed to support business needs including industry trade shows, events, and technical meetings locally and nationally.
* A Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Ecology, Geology, Environmental Engineering or related field.
* 15+ years of industry experience with 5+ years of experience generating leads, creating proposals, conducting sales presentations, meeting sales goals, and directing project work execution.
* Must possess excellent communication and technical writing skills.

Detailed Description:
The ideal candidate will have strong technical, written, and verbal skills. We are looking for someone that is highly organized and capable of working with a diverse team of scientists and engineers on multiple tasks with competing priorities. The successful candidate will have a positive, can do attitude; will be flexible and self-motivated, creative and well-organized, and quality-oriented with attention to detail. Projects needing support include environmental compliance and permitting for private sector clients. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
* Assisting with environmental studies, permitting, and compliance reviews.
* Conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
* Conducting regulatory research
* Technical writing of permitting documents and project delivery.
* Collecting field data, auditing and documenting field activities.
* Communicating environmental requirements directly to the project team and/or client.
* Performing data collection and documentation related to field activities such as site investigation (soil and groundwater), and site inspections.
* Performing project site visits outside the office, including commercial and industrial facilities.
* Assisting with the preparation of technical memoranda and reports related to compliance and permitting.
* Working independently and with teams to complete assignments with other team members in a virtual platform.
* Ability and willingness to travel to support regional and national client teams.

Desired Skills and Experience:
* BS Degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Material Science) or BS Degree in Science (Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry)

* Proficiency in Excel, Word and basic computer skills required
* Permitting and compliance experience preferred with knowledge of local, state and federal environmental regulations

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
