The DECM-Engineering team consists of experts in architectural and engineering design, property services, project management, and sustainability, efficiency, and resiliency (SE&R). It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. Purpose of the position: The purpose of this position is to be responsible for performing mechanical work to repair, maintain, and rebuild gasoline and alternative fueled automotive equipment. REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma or its equivalent, as required by Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), PLUS one (1) year of experience assisting with or performing mechanical repair and routine maintenance on equipment, machinery, or mechanical systems in an industrial, utility, automotive, or similar setting. Additional college or technical coursework in subjects related to science or treatment plant operations is preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must obtain within twelve (12) months of employment, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Class C Wastewater Operator's license. May be required, depending upon area of assignment, to successfully complete an OSHA-compliant forklift operator training course which meets the requirements of CFR 1910.178 and be able to operate a forklift. Must be physically capable at all times of properly wearing and utilizing all required personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include respiratory protection. Must be able to work planned and unplanned overtime and standby and on call duties on a rotational basis, including nights, weekends, and holidays. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed. This position is part of an established career ladder.
