Once hired, Probation/Parole Officers must pass a firearms test, self-defense class and the Basic PPO Certification Exam.
Probation/Parole Officers enjoy annual salary increases with a step pay plan! In your first year of work as a North Carolina Probation Officer, you will earn $45,422.00, and after one-year of satisfactory employment, your salary will be increased to $48,374.00. After six years, you will be earning in excess of$66,000! Applicants with experience in a related position such as probation or law enforcement, Juvenile Court Counselor, or Correctional Case Manager may qualify to start at a higher step. What are the duties of a Probation/Parole Officer? Place offenders into appropriate supervision levels through investigative and assessment processes; Respond to offender behavior and non-compliance; Make referrals regarding treatment that offenders need; Counsel offenders; Carry officer safety package to include a firearm, pepper spray, and protective vest; Intervene in crises and conduct arrests; Evaluate what an offender needs to successfully complete probation or post-release and parole; Officers interact with court personnel, victims, community agencies, and law enforcement personnel; Officers must maintain a professional demeanor while working with potentially volatile and assaultive offenders and be able to defend oneself and others if the need arises; Officers must work with and maintain positive professional working relationships with offenders, community leaders, law enforcement, and court officials.

Probation/Parole Officers:
* Are assigned a state car
* Carry and use gun and OC Pepper spray
* Do not always work with a partner and are expected to make home visits, sometimes in the middle of the night when on-call

* Search an offender's home
* Must be able to learn a variety of software
* Make decisions about punishment of an offender who is non-compliant
* Must be able to pass certification requirements to include attending eight consecutive weeks of Basic training and remain on campus overnight. Training includes but is not limited to: Firearms, OC Pepper Spray, Controls, Restraints and Defensive Techniques (CRDT, non-lethal self-defense), Arrest, search and seizure, administering drug tests, ethics, laws, procedures, policies.

The Meat and Poultry Inspection Division enforces State and Federal laws designed to ensure meat and poultry products sold to consumers are wholesome, unadulterated, and properly labeled. The Division inspects approximately 200 plants statewide for red meat slaughter/processing and poultry processing and operates a program "at least equal to" the USDA, Food Safety Inspection Service.
The selected applicant will complete an extensive Meat and Poultry Inspection training program which consists of six weeks of on-the-job training, 6 weeks of classroom training and occasional follow-up training to address changes to policies and regulatory requirements.
Position will serve as the Inspector in Charge at four processing establishments in Chowan and Pasquotank counties. Processing activities include inspection of raw ground, raw not ground, heat-treated not fully cooked-not shelf stable, and fully cooked-not shelf stable products.
Daily duties include conducting ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection of slaughtered livestock; observing the humane handling of said livestock; evaluating plant's sanitation procedures and practices; verifying the implementation of plant's Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans; collecting and submitting samples for microbiological analysis; verifying the accuracy of product labels; and other inspection activities as required. Working conditions include a noisy industrial environment; varying environmental conditions within the facility ranging from sub-freezing to extreme humidity; and standing, climbing, and kneeling on elevated platforms for extended periods of time.
The inspections, observations, and findings are generated by, and recorded in, a web-based information system. If a plant is not meeting regulatory requirements, the inspector must communicate this noncompliance to plant management. Inspector will document the noncompliance and follow enforcement actions up to and including suspending plant operations until regulatory requirements are met.
The establishments on this assignment operate as early as 6:00 am and as late as 5:00 pm. This position must be onsite during operational hours. Occasional holiday, weekend, and overtime work may be required. Relief duties at other establishments should be expected.
As part of the onboarding process, new hires must pass a Federal background check and present a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or other acceptable forms of identification to obtain necessary Federal credentials.

This Environmental Specialist II position is located within the Field Operations Branch of the Solid Waste Section in the Division of Waste Management. The primary purpose of the position is responsible for the protection and safeguarding of human health and the environment from the potential adverse effects of improper solid waste management by ensuring compliance with the N. This is highly skilled work in the maintenance and repair of complex electronic systems or developmental work in the modification, design and installation of electronic devices and systems.
