Description of Work
This is professional medical work in providing advanced or specialized treatment services in a
clinic or unit of an institution or other patient care facility of the state. Employees consistently provide outstanding staff level medical services and are frequently called upon to solve difficult medical problems and to work on special projects. Work may include the guidance and review of work performed by other staff level physicians and may infrequently require employees to fulfill the role of director of the work unit. While work is performed with independent professional responsibility, employees are generally accountable to a non-medical or physician director of the total program.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES PERFORMED
Treats all medical, psychiatric, and neurological problems of assigned patients; evaluates and interprets related reports developed by physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other professional personnel. Compiles histories of present and past illnesses; reviews available records; performs physical examinations; orders laboratory and x-ray examinations. Assigns duties to subordinates; participates in the training of interns, resident physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel; reviews completed work for general adequacy and compliance with instructions. Examines new patients or patients with unusual conditions; determines need for and recommends special treatments. Participates in medical conferences and other staff meetings for the presentation and discussion of cases and for general staff development and improvement. Performs related duties as required, as in the case of investigating the appropriate utilization of clinical facilities for patient care.

Longleaf Neuro-Medical Treatment Center (LNMTC), located in Wilson, NC, is a state-operated certified Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). With a staff of about 520, LNMTC provides support to approximately 200 residents with complex medical needs and/or co-existing neuro-cognitive disorders.

* Establish a diagnosis and initiate appropriate response to emergency health problems.

management and therapeutic outcomes, order medications, diagnostic test and referral consultations where needed for every patient encounter; recording will be accomplished using the electronic comprehensive patient record system (CPRS), and will be completed on the day of the encounter.
* Follow Performance Measure guidelines, including completion of clinical reminders in CPRS; access and timeliness standards; prescription order entry, National VA formulary requirements, and customer service standards.
* Providers will act as surrogates for the patient of their assigned colleagues when their colleagues are on
leave/travel.
The incumbent is responsible to the Chief, Primary Care, for his/her work. Administrative direction is provided in terms of broadly defined goals and missions and in conjunction with the Chief, PCSL. The PCSL Physician exercises and exceptional degree of latitude in the planning, designing, implementation and accomplishment of program responsibilities. Job Description
The Hospice and Palliative Medicine Physician provides the medical component of the Hospice/Palliative Care Programs. Attend IDG meetings as appropriate

Provide education to rotating students, residents and fellows.

In conjunction with the patient's Attending Physician, certify patient prognosis at the time of hospice admission when needed.
Review/recertify patient prognosis for continuing hospice services on HMB/HMC patients as appropriate.
Be responsible for pharmacy utilization for patients under your care.
Attend weekly IDG meeting as a full and active participant. When the Attending Physician is not available to meet the medical needs of the patient, will provide the staff with appropriate medical direction for the patient.
