In your first year of work as a North Carolina Probation Officer, you will earn $45,422.00, and after one-year of satisfactory employment, your salary will be increased to $48,374.00. After six years, you will be earning in excess of$66,000! Applicants with experience in a related position such as probation or law enforcement, Juvenile Court Counselor, or Correctional Case Manager may qualify to start at a higher step. What are the duties of a Probation/Parole Officer? Place offenders into appropriate supervision levels through investigative and assessment processes; Respond to offender behavior and non-compliance; Make referrals regarding treatment that offenders need; Counsel offenders; Carry officer safety package to include a firearm, pepper spray, and protective vest; Intervene in crises and conduct arrests; Evaluate what an offender needs to successfully complete probation or post-release and parole; Officers interact with court personnel, victims, community agencies, and law enforcement personnel; Officers must maintain a professional demeanor while working with potentially volatile and assaultive offenders and be able to defend oneself and others if the need arises; Officers must work with and maintain positive professional working relationships with offenders, community leaders, law enforcement, and court officials.

Description of Work
Samarcand Training Academy, a public safety training academy, located in Jackson Springs, NC (Moore County) is seeking to hire multiple Training Role Player positions. These positions will facilitate replicating real world public safety scenarios for trainees. Positions are TEMPORARY PART-TIME and employees will be hired though Temporary Solutions. Please note that these positions are not typical administrative positions in an office setting.
Samarcand Training Academy will be hosting several blocks of BLET (Basic Law Enforcement Training) beginning in early 2026. As part of this training, participants will take part in several role-playing exercises through which their interactions will be assessed by instructors. Over fifteen (15) role players will be needed to fill these part-time positions. Role players will work on an "as needed" basis throughout the course of the 2026 training sessions.
Since the roles will be scripted, a minimum amount of acting or theater experience will be required. Additionally, role players will be tangentially part of the assessment process and they will provide feedback to instructors regarding their interactions with trainees. Role players will be selected based on demonstrated ability and availability for each particular training scenario.
Scenarios will require the following behaviors and abilities:
* The ability to follow detailed instructions.
* The ability to reasonably act out a defined role.
* The willingness to be handcuffed, placed in the prone position, or on your knees for a short period of time.
* The willingness to use simunition equipment and wear protective gear that facilitates the safe use of simulated firearms that simulate real-world shootings.
* The ability to act out a role with specific instructions that replicates a myriad of common and uncommon calls for service and situations that public safety professionals prepare for through training. Some examples are being interviewed as a witness, victim, or suspect in a training scenario, being the driver and/or passenger in a traffic stop, being a witness, victim, or suspect in a domestic violence training scenario, school-violence training scenario, mass casualty training scenario, gambling training scenario, major crime training scenario, illegal use of alcohol and/or illegal drugs training scenario, illegal activities in hunting and/or fishing training scenario, illegal activity on a higher education campus training scenario, or any other public safety training scenario.
* Any compilation of the above bullets.
All role players must be able to speak English depending on the needs of the scenario; stand; sit; prone out from a standing position; hold their hands above their head for short period of time; walk; crawl; and run for short distances and times.
Anyone involved in a training scenario can end the scenario at any time for safety reasons, this includes the instructor, student, role player, or observer.

Knowledge of: English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; court rules, regulations, procedures, and operations; legal and various specialized terminology; and transcript format and style.
Skill in: transcribing notes rapidly and accurately; and using court reporting hardware.

Additional Expectations:

The Division of Soil and Water Conservation (Division) administers a comprehensive statewide program for conserving the state's soil and water resources. This mission is achieved on private working lands through a partnership approach of federal, state, local and private entities. The Division is staffed by 48 employees and is divided into five (5) program areas -Administration, District Operations, Nonpoint Source Section, Engineering Services Section, and the Environmental Services Section.
The Division provides funding and technical assistance to grantees completing stream repair projects following natural disasters. The Streamflow Rehabilitation Assistance Program (StRAP) is funded through a non-recurring state appropriation. The purpose of the program is to fund projects that help reduce flooding, restore streams, and protect the integrity of drainage infrastructure across North Carolina's waterways. StRAP works in conjunction with the Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWP) and other programs to assist local sponsors with stream repair projects associated with Hurricane Helene and other natural disasters.
* Assisting grantees in identification of streams and properties eligible for funding. The position will assist sponsors in site assessments of potential sites. The position will join local sponsors during site visits, which may include travel through streams, woods, and difficult terrain. This position may provide guidance to landowners for the implementation of stream repair projects.
* Providing technical assistance to grantees implementing stream repair projects. Provide technical and administrative support, recommendations, and implementation assistance on a wide range of conservation programs. The position will assist local sponsors on the different funding sources available and identify which funding sources best meet their needs. The position will serve as a resource to grantees the best management practices needed for stream repair and disaster recovery projects. This may include providing recommendations on what practices are needed to repair damage and improve stream flow, participating in trainings, and performing outreach to sponsor staff & partners.
* Perform inspections for streams and projects completed through StRAP and other programs. Offenders are assigned to various "custody" levels including "Minimum," "Medium," and "Close" which identifies the level of supervision that is required. As such, each Correctional Officer level of classification below corresponds with the custody level of offenders that they will be supervising:
Correctional Food Service Officer I: Minimum - Offenders at these facilities require a minimum amount of oversight, they are permitted to enter/exit cells without permission during certain times of the day.
Correctional Food Service Officer II: Medium - Offenders at these facilities do not require as much oversight as those at Close facilities but require more supervision than those at Minimum facilities.
Correctional Food Service Officer III: Close-offenders at these facilities always require close supervision. Movement throughout the prison is heavily controlled.

The Division of Soil and Water Conservation (Division) administers a comprehensive statewide program for conserving the state's soil and water resources. Its mission is to foster voluntary, incentive-driven management of soil, water, and related natural resources for the benefit of the environment, economy, and all citizens. This mission is achieved on private working lands through a partnership approach of federal, state, local and private entities. The Division is staffed by 48 employees and is divided into five (5) program areas -Administration, District Operations, Nonpoint Source Section, Engineering Services Section, and the Environmental Services Section.
The Division provides funding and technical assistance to grantees completing stream repair projects following natural disasters. The Streamflow Rehabilitation Assistance Program (StRAP) is funded through a non-recurring state appropriation. The purpose of the program is to fund projects that help reduce flooding, restore streams, and protect the integrity of drainage infrastructure across North Carolina's waterways. StRAP works in conjunction with the Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWP) and other programs to assist local sponsors with stream repair projects associated with Hurricane Helene and other natural disasters.
* Assisting grantees in identification of streams and properties eligible for funding. The position will assist sponsors in site assessments of potential sites. The position will join local sponsors during site visits, which may include travel through streams, woods, and difficult terrain. This position may provide guidance to landowners for the implementation of stream repair projects.
* Providing technical assistance to grantees implementing stream repair projects. Provide technical and administrative support, recommendations, and implementation assistance on a wide range of conservation programs. The position will assist local sponsors on the different funding sources available and identify which funding sources best meet their needs. The position will serve as a resource to grantees the best management practices needed for stream repair and disaster recovery projects. This may include providing recommendations on what practices are needed to repair damage and improve stream flow, participating in trainings, and performing outreach to sponsor staff & partners.
* Perform inspections for streams and projects completed through StRAP and other programs. The position will assist sponsors in ensuring that completed work is compliant with the project Scope of Work and relevant program guidelines. When work does not meet program guidelines, the position will instruct sponsors on what additional work is needed to ensure work is completed correctly.
* Facilitating collaboration between local sponsors and other connected organizations. The position will assist sponsors in coordinating with outside organizations involved in the stream repair process. The position may be responsible for scheduling meetings without other organizations. The position will need to maintain communication and working relationships with other Division staff, Natural Resources Conservation Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA, soil & water conservation districts, and others.
* Assist Soil & Water Conservation Districts with new staff positions created in response to Hurricane Helene. The position will provide technical assistance to new District employees and will assist districts in coordinating new staff hired to work with multiple districts.
