JOB SUMMARY The Public Safety Officer Trainer protects the life and property of all persons on the NCH Healthcare System premises and patrols hospital property and ground to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism. This position coordinates and implements the Department's training program for all armed and unarmed officers. The position works with staff to identify training needs and opportunities; schedules training activities and functions; ensures compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, as well as department policies and procedures; and maintains records related to the program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned. * Reviews and/or provides advice and support to managers and staff, including in agencies, on public safety training related matters, i.e., interpretation and application/exceptions of public safety training standards, policies, regulations, rules, and procedures; recommends changes as required. * Participates and/or leads public safety training projects to evaluate the impact of training, redesign existing standards, create new learning tools to address gaps and/or strengthen the management and quality assurance processes. * Keeps abreast of developments in various areas of public safety training and learning. * Supervises and monitors the work of the Team Assistants (trainer assistance) in carrying out all administrative transactions related to public safety training projects and courses for which the security training officer is responsible. * Coordinates and administers examinations and tests related to training certification of professional, general service and other categories of public safety staff. * Identifies and analyzes training, staff development and career support needs for the Public Safety Workforce and managers with Public Safety responsibilities and designs programs to meet identified needs cost-effectively and in accordance with the Learning and Development Strategy for the Public Safety Workforce. * Provides advice on training, and mobility to integrated personnel, particularly staff in the higher risk patient care areas. * Acts as the Public Safety Armorer for annual and routine firearms inspections and repairs. * Designs, plans, monitors, and provides induction orientation, core, and specialist learning programs for Public Safety personnel. * Assists in preparing policy papers, position papers and briefing notes for NCH senior management, and other stakeholders on issues related to public safety training and examinations and tests and collects and maintains related data sources. * Provides training on Workplace Violence, De-Escalation Training, and Run, Hide, Fight Training to all NCH staff. * Participates in NCH New Hire Orientation, as needed, to provide information on the Public Safety Department and related policies. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS * One-year of formal education or training beyond High School/GED OR Completion of military, law enforcement, NRA, or armed security training program required. * Minimum of 3 years' experience in law enforcement, security, or service as an NCH Public Safety Officer. * Two years law enforcement or security instructor/trainer preferred. * Must have a valid driver's license and successfully pass a DMV check. * Certified Advanced Healthcare Certification (CAHSO) from IAHSS within 1 year from hire required. * BLS Certification/CPR preferred. * Willingness to receive, successfully complete, and maintain department sponsored handcuffs, body worn cameras, and electronic control defensive weapon (Taser 7) certification within 6 months of hire required. * Preferred: Two (2) years law enforcement training with current certifications in defensive/control tactics, and Taser Instructor. * Proficient computer skills necessary to utilize all Public Safety software programs. Must be able to effectively communicate, read, and write in the English language. * Ability to write concise detailed reports with proper spelling and grammar. * Ability to use job specific including but not limited to digital camera CCTV, electronic access control systems, fire alarm notifications and panels, duress, and intrusion alarms. * Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.

Additionally, the Public Safety Officer aids individuals that are on NCH grounds in the event of an emergency. Combative individuals may require physical intervention. * Completes reports and incident documentation as necessary. Reports must be easy to read and accurate. * Controls evidence, valuables, and lost/found items as necessary. * Operates UM vehicles in accordance with the rules and regulations of the University of Miami. * Works in an independent atmosphere with minimal supervision and high public contact.
