Ultrasound Technologist Description:
Perform quality diagnostic medical sonograms under supervision to ensure accurate and appropriate imaging information for use in diagnosis and treatment. Effectively works to coordinate the required resources for diagnostic ultrasound service delivery, problem solves and expedites communication with other health care providers to ensure optimal patient outcomes, and demonstrate active involvement in department operations and decision making by modeling effective work group processes and fiscal responsibility.
Required Qualifications:
* Ability to competently manage patient/family of all age groups required.

Position Requirements:
Education: Completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography required.
Licensure:
ARDMS- required.
RVT- preferred.
Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS)- required.
Experience:
2+ years of experience working in a diagnostic ultrasound department- required.
2+ years of experience in vascular ultrasound- preferred.
1+ years of experience with Phillips US machines- preferred.
1+ years of experience with Trophon- preferred.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Perform diagnostic medical sonograms, acquiring appropriate and good quality images for interpretation by a supervising radiologist.
Ability to obtain and clearly relay an accurate and complete patient history to the supervising radiologist.
Perform the minimally required safety evaluations on the equipment by following established guidelines to detect problems.
Able to effectively interact and communicate with patients, physicians, and other team members in a collaborative and professional manner.
Knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

A Brief Overview

Coordinates and performs all peripheral vascular and cardiac sonography procedures in the Outpatient and Hospital setting. 3-5 years of peripheral vascular study experience preferred.

Work Schedule: Flexible 8-hour day shift position with department coverage from 6:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. No scheduled weekends or holidays, with call rotation every 3 to 4 weeks.
Responsibilities:

Identifies each patient by ID band verification and birth date.
Ensures patient understanding of pending procedure.
Cover appropriate body parts and position patient correctly.

Workflow management.
Review orders for clinical and demographic consistency and verifies accuracy prior to exam.

Understand and support the direction and workflow of the department.

Selects from work list 100% of the time or follows the correct down time guidelines for patient demographic information in order to pass the information to medical records.
Works closely with IT when the work list is not working. IT feedback and notification of manual scanning of finalized results for medical records.
Competency check list on each procedure by technical director (echo/vascular).
Obtains accurate patient history, appropriate indications for the study and critical measurements for physician interpretation.
Measure feedback from Cardiologist/Vascular Surgeon, peers, business office and medical records.
Acquires all images digitally in Xcelera and assigned the images to a Cardiologist/Vascular Surgeon for final interpretation and report.
All studies sent and edited within 24 hours of procedure.
Educates patient on procedure and confirms understanding PRIOR to beginning the procedure.
