Negros Oriental State University company history timeline

1902

It was one of the 23 high schools in the country at that time. It opened in Dumaguete on September 1, 1902.

1907

Dur­ing the cer­e­mony, Arevalo with NORSU pres­i­dent, Doctor Vi­cente Real, un­veiled a marker pro­claim­ing 1907 as NORSU's foun­da­tion year, mak­ing the school 107 years old.

The beginnings of what is now the Negros Oriental State University date back to 1907, from a single woodworking class at what was then the Negros Oriental Provincial School, the forerunner of the present Negros Oriental High School.

1907 The school was started as a small shop on the intermediate level (fifth grade). It was located on the City Hall ground and was adjunct to the provincial schools which had both intermediate and high school classes.

1927

The Negros Oriental Trade School (NOTS) was ordered to be created on December 3, 1927 by virtue of Act No.

1928

3377 of the Philippine Legislature, the woodworking class became the Negros Oriental Trade School (NOTS) where the first 25 students were officially enrolled in July 1928.

1932

In 1932, NOTS was transferred from its premises at the ground floor of the Municipal Hall to its present campus.

1938

About 1938, Building Construction was offered as a course.

1942

The members of class 1942 of NOTS were never to finish the school year.

1945

The Negros Oriental Trade School campus was used by the US Army in 1945 as quarters for Japanese prisoners of war whom they captured.

1946

NOTS was then reopened in July 1946.

1948

In 1948 The Related Subjects building was constructed from provincial funds.

1956

1579 signed into law on June 16, 1956, the Negros Oriental Trade School became the EAST VISAYAN SCHOOL OF ARTS AND TRADES (EVSAT. Under this new status, EVSAT was headed by a "Superintendent" with a "Principal" assisting him in administering the academic program of the school.

1957

The implementation took effect during the school year 1957-58.

1965

In 1965, EVSAT was authorized by virtue of Republic Act No.

1967

The need for candidates for the BSIE degree, major in industrial arts, for laboratory classes to do practice teaching led EVSAT in 1967 to be authorized to open elementary classes.

1975

In 1975, new shop courses in Marine Engineering and Electronics, and Saturday classes in Practical Arts were offered for the first time.

1976

In 1976, EVSAT's graduate program was inaugurated, starting with the Master of Education degree.

1983

In­cluded in the in­sti­tu­tion's su­per­vi­sion were the Ne­gros Ori­en­tal Agri­cul­tural School, the Gui­hul­ngan Vo­ca­tional School and the Bais City School of Fish­eries, un­til it be­came the Cen­tral Visayas State Col­lege (CVPC) in 1983.

1986

It accused Amazon of viol­at­ing Pro­pos­i­tion 65, a 1986 ini­ti­at­ive requir­ing busi­nesses to notify cus­tom­ers if products can cause birth defects, repro­duct­ive harm or can­cer.

1992

In his first term as President from 1992, Doctor Sojor placed high priority in advancing the programs of CVPC under seven categories; namely, academic programming and instructional development, research, extension service, capital development, international linkages and partners, and production.

1994

Wall Street ral­lied Wed­nes­day after the Fed­eral Reserve’s sharpest hike to interest rates since 1994, and its later assur­ance that such mega-hikes would not be com­mon.

2004

In 2004, it is then converted into what is now the Negros Oriental State University.

2012

Real fur­ther said that, when he as­sumed as pres­i­dent on July 13, 2012, he was in­formed of a move­ment of dis­cov­er­ing the dis­tinct cra­dle years of NORSU in 1097 by the for­mer vice pres­i­dent of aca­demic af­fairs Dr Ro­mula San­tos Aleta.

2014
