Neighborhood House Assn company history timeline

1914

The Neighborhood House Association (NHA) was established in 1914 as a settlement house that assisted immigrants transitioning to the San Diego community.

In 1914, Helen and Mary Marston opened the Neighborhood House in San Diego.

1917

The trend that would eventually cause the demise of the Neighborhood House Association would begin in 1917, when the school board opened an opportunity school in the north side and the Little Italy settlement house closed.

1926

Neighborhood Alliance (formerly Neighborhood House Association, Inc.), began in 1926 in the front room of a tiny house on East 30th Street.

1927

By 1927, the new West High was built and was encroaching in more ways than one.

In 1927, the group Miss Haskell started was called the Americanization Center.

1978

And then in the 1978, a group of enlightened Neighborhood House board members explored a new area of service for the community when they decided to open the adult day care center.
