NeoPhotonics company history timeline

1996

NeoPhotonics was incorporated as NanoGram Corporation in October 1996 in the State of Delaware.

The company was co-founded by Chinese-born Sean Bi and Japanese-born Nobuyuki Kambe in 1996.

2002

The company changed its name to NeoPhotonics Corporation in 2002.

Late that year, again in 2003, the company filed for reorganization under bankruptcy. It also received US$35 million from investors in 2002.

2003

NeoPhotonics spun out two new companies in 2003 to pursue non-telecom applications.

In early 2003 the company acquired Lightwave Microsystems, a manufacturer of silica-on-silica passive integrated optical products.

Late that year, again in 2003, the company filed for reorganization under bankruptcy.

2004

NanoGram Devices Corporation was a medical device battery innovator that was acquired by Greatbatch Inc. (now Integer Holdings Corp., NYSE: ITGR) in 2004.

2005

In 2005, the company acquired ownership in Photon Technology Co., Ltd., a Chinese manufacturer of optoelectric devices and modules, based in Shenzhen, China.

2006

June 2006: Lightconnect, Inc., which expanded our product portfolio by adding a line of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)-based optical components and modules

June 2006: OpTun, Inc., a developer of ROADM technology

August 2006: BeamExpress, Inc., an integrator of active indium phosphide telecommunications devices in parallel optics high-speed transceivers

By 2006 they acquired most all of Photon's outstanding shares.

2008

February 2008: Certain assets and intellectual property from Mitsubishi Electric Corporation relating to the manufacture of high-speed transceivers

2010

NanoGram Corporation, a nanomaterials applications company, was acquired in 2010 by Teijin Limited, a Japanese chemical and pharmaceutical company focused on high-performance fibers.

2011

The company completed is initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange on February 2, 2011.

October 2011: Santur Corporation, a leading provider of tunable lasers and high-speed data transmission modules based on innovation laser array technologies

2013

March 2013: LAPIS Semiconductor Optical Components Unit, a market leader in design and manufacture of GaAs & InP components for high-speed fiber optics networks

2015

January 2015: EMCORE Telecom Products, a market leader in design and manufacture of External Cavity Laser (ECL)-based tunable products for high-speed fiber optics networks

2016

As of June 2016, the company owned approximately 550 US patents and 100 patents overseas.

As of October 2016, the market capitalization of NeoPhotonics Corporation was approximately $700 million.

2017

January 2017: The company divested its low speed transceiver product assets to focus exclusively on high speed technologies and solutions
