1992

NetApp got its start in 1992, back when using the internet meant dialing up and hearing beeps, crackles, and eeps.

1993

NetApp's fiscal year ended in April, which meant no revenues were collected for the year because the company did not ship its first products until June 1993.

Malcolm stepped down and Warmenhoven took his place, joining NetApp in October 1994.

The first ever functional product introduced to the market was the filer in the year 1994.

In 1994, NetApp received venture capital funding from Sequoia Capital.

1995

1995: Network Appliance completes its initial public offering of stock.

1996

By 1996, the company had established a presence stretching from coast to coast, operating sales offices in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Texas, Virginia, and in the District of Columbia.

The financial growth recorded in 1996 was the beginning of NetApp's impressive transformation into one of the most successful computer companies in the nation.

In 1996, the company posted its first annual profit, recording $6.6 million in net income.

1999

To take advantage of the new opportunities, the company completed a second stock offering in April 1999, raising $123 million.

In June 1999, the company moved into the first of three buildings in Sunnyvale, California.

In mid-1999, NetApp announced it was moving out of its headquarters in Santa Clara, California, opting for larger quarters to accommodate its growth.

2002

By 2002, a discernible shift in the source of the company's business had occurred, with 60 percent of annual sales coming from customers in financial services, the federal government, telecommunications, energy, and manufacturing.

Looking ahead from 2002, prognostications were sanguine, an attitude projected by Warmenhoven.

After the bubble burst, NetApp's revenues quickly declined to $800 million in its fiscal year 2002.

2006

In 2006, NetApp sold the NetCache product line to Blue Coat Systems.

2008

In 2008, Network Appliance officially changed its legal name to NetApp, Inc., reflecting the nickname by which it was already well-known.

2012

Founded by David, Michael and James in the financial year of 1992, NetApp has come a long way. It was the year of 2012 when NetApp made a spectacular debut in the Fortune 500 list.

2013

The Great Place to Work Institute recently named NetApp #3 on its “World’s Best Multinational Workplaces List 2013” -the world’s largest annual study of workplace excellence, for the third year in a row.

2014

FORTUNE Magazine also ranked us #33 on their “100 Best Companies To Work For” list for 2014.

2015

On June 1, 2015, Tom Georgens stepped down as CEO and was replaced by George Kurian.

In 2015, NetApp acquired SolidFire as a part of its expansion.

2018

In May 2018 NetApp announced its first End to End NVMe array called All Flash FAS A800 with release of ONTAP 9.4 software.

2019

In January 2019 Dave Hitz announced retirement from NetApp.
