We are seeking a visionary and impact-driven Research Engineer to join our team of exceptional data scientists, researchers and engineers to lead the creation of Netflix's User Identity Knowledge Graph - a foundational, 0-1 initiative that will transform our understanding of our user base, and tackle the challenge of uncovering "Who is in front of the screen?". This is an unique opportunity to define and shape a critical problem space from scratch, architect the applied research roadmap, and deliver insights and solutions that can power targeted commerce, personalization, and more across the Netflix ecosystem. In this role, you will: * Lead the 0-1 development of the User Identity Knowledge Graph, defining the vision, technical strategy, and research agenda for this greenfield initiative. * Shape the problem space: Identify and articulate the key challenges and opportunities in modeling user knowledge at scale, and translate ambiguous business needs across Netflix business domains into concrete research and engineering objectives. * Drive applied research: Design, prototype, and deploy novel machine learning and knowledge representation models that capture rich, multi-faceted user information. * Set the research roadmap: Prioritize and sequence research efforts, balancing long-term vision with near-term impact, and ensure alignment with business goals. * Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with data scientists, engineers, product managers, and stakeholders across Netflix to ensure solutions are robust, scalable, and impactful. You have: * Proven technical leadership in 0-1 or highly ambiguous problem spaces, with a track record of shaping research direction and delivering impactful solutions. * Deep expertise in knowledge graphs and/or graph neural nets, modern ML/DL frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and large-scale data processing (e.g., Spark, PySpark, Scala etc) as applied to end-to-end ML system development. * Exceptional communication skills, able to clearly articulate complex technical concepts and influence cross-functional partners. * Strong ownership mindset and comfort with ambiguity, thriving in environments with minimal structure and high autonomy. * PhD in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent research experience) is strongly preferred. * Passion for impact: Demonstrated ability to connect research outcomes to business value and product strategy. The range for this role is $400,000 - $960,000. Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We do that by providing scalable and resilient infrastructure to address integrated large-scale media, assets, data, and communication use cases. The AMP team focuses on asset management. The team manages a centralized, scalable asset platform that serves as the backend for many studio applications that are used by film/TV series production teams. The scope of the asset platform is very wide, it manages assets straight from the production sets to promotional images/videos to studio related documents. Within the assets it also manages temporal and spatial annotations that enhances asset discovery. Content MiddleWare Infrastructure Messaging (MWI Messaging) The Content MiddleWare Infrastructure Messaging team (MWI Messaging), part of the Content Infrastructure & Solutions (CIS) group, provides CBP Engineering-specific, highly leveraged, and fully managed eventing, notification and communications platform solutions to empower CBP Engineering teams. The Role As a Privacy Software Engineer on the Ads Identity and Audiences team, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding Netflix member privacy across the Netflix Ads Suite. Your primary focus will be on designing and implementing privacy-preserving technologies that ensure ads are not only engaging but also fully respectful of consumer privacy choices and compliant with regional regulations. Skills & experience we're seeking: * Professional experience in designing and building privacy features for ad platforms, with a focus on user data protection and compliance. * Strong understanding of data privacy, governance, and security concepts, including Privacy by Design principles. * Experience with implementing data privacy protections such as data minimization, encryption, and deidentification techniques. * In-depth knowledge of regional privacy regulations, e.g. GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act), and CPRA (California Privacy Rights Act). * Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, C++, or similar, with a strong grasp of software development principles and design patterns. * Experience in developing distributed cloud-based applications and proficiency in modern programming languages, preferably object-oriented. * Proven experience in handling data at extremely large volumes with big data tools like Spark, and building high throughput low latency distributed systems that utilized the big data. * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and effectively manage multiple priorities. * Knowledge of the ad tech and advertising landscape, including programmatic advertising and digital marketing trends. * Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Nice to haves: * Experience with Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) * Experience integrating with Consent Management Platforms (CMPs) * Experience working in the CTV space and knowledge of its unique constraints. * Contribution to ad tech privacy industry groups (e.g. IAB Tech Lab). Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $100,000 - $720,000.
