Job Summary:
Supermicro seeks an experienced Staff Data Center Mechanical Engineer to design mechanical systems for advanced AI and hyperscale data centers. This role standardizes mechanical frameworks, including OPR and BOD documents, ensuring facilities meet high standards for performance, reliability, and energy efficiency.
The ideal candidate has strong data center mechanical engineering experience, understands wet and dry systems, and can learn liquid-cooling technologies. They will work with consultants, construction teams, and global partners to deliver cost-effective, code-compliant, scalable data centers.

Lead the mechanical design scope for new and retrofit data centers, covering air- and liquid-cooling systems, and design the systems to meet redundancy and efficiency targets.
Develop and maintain mechanical design standards, OPRs, and BODs for all Supermicro data center programs.
Perform load calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection for pumps, chillers, cooling towers, dry coolers, and heat exchangers.
Collaborate with electrical, controls, and architectural teams to optimize overall facility layout, energy use, and serviceability.
Provide engineering oversight for plumbing and fire-protection system design, ensuring full code compliance and integration with mechanical infrastructure.
Review consultant and contractor drawings, specifications, and submittals to verify accuracy and adherence to Supermicro standards.
Be familiar with OCP standards such as facility design and liquid-cooling requirements, and with ASHRAE guidelines for thermal management and environmental control.
Support commissioning activities, including factory acceptance testing (FAT), site inspections, and integrated systems testing (IST).
Identify and evaluate new cooling technologies such as rear-door heat exchangers, immersion cooling, and liquid-to-liquid heat-transfer systems.
Lead energy-efficiency initiatives aimed at improving PUE and WUE across all projects.
Manage mechanical system risk assessments and provide mitigation strategies during design and construction phases.
Interface with utilities and permitting authorities to ensure smooth project execution and compliance.
Document lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of mechanical design templates and workflows.
Additional Responsibilities:
Mentor engineers and teams as mechanical systems expert.
Train internal staff and join design and commissioning events.
Assess vendors, review equipment, and test standard components.
Keep up with ASHRAE TC 9.9, sustainability, and new mechanical tech for dense computing.

* Provide technical management and support for the organization's database environments to ensure database security, integrity, performance, availability and recoverability of databases, database servers, and related systems.
* Develop, implement, and periodically test backup and recovery plan for the production of critical databases to ensure the business continuity plan is accurate and effective.
* Ensure database security by controlling access to databases through authentication and authorization and performing auditing of database usage and active users.
* Audit database security and user access to ensure HIPPA regulatory law reporting requirements are met.
* Monitor database server resources to ensure production environments meet performance and availability requirements.
* Install, test, secure and maintain new versions of database software, patches and other associated software application changes or upgrades.
* Provide storage and capacity planning, long and short term, to ensure adequate space is available for all database environments.

* Work with the application development team to ensure that appropriate and efficient SQL is coded and tested prior to production deployment.

THE PERSON:
We are seeking a DevOps / Platform Engineer to join our team building and operating large-scale GPU compute infrastructure that powers AI and ML workloads. The ideal candidate should be passionate about software engineering and possess leadership skills to independently deliver on multi-quarter projects. They should be able to caommunicate effectively and work optimally with their peers within our larger organization. Finally, you aren't afraid of a team in more of a startup mode at a larger company and willing to jump in to help in areas adjacent to your main project as needed.
Key Responsibilities
* Build and extend platform capabilities to enable new classes of workloads (e.g., interactive development pods, CI pipelines, inference services, benchmarking jobs).
* Design and operate scalable orchestration systems using Kubernetes across both on-prem and multi-cloud environments.
* Develop platform features such as secret management, configuration management, and deployment automation for customers.
* Partner with development teams to extend the GPU developer platform with features, APIs, templates, and self-service workflows that streamline job orchestration and environment management.
* Manage service lifecycle within Kubernetes using Helm and GitOps workflows (e.g., ArgoCD or Flux).
* Apply expertise in storage and networking to design and integrate CSI drivers, persistent volumes, and network policies that enable high-performance GPU workloads.
Required Qualifications
* 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform, or Infrastructure Engineering.
* Deep hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration at scale.
* Proven ability to design and deliver platform features that serve internal customers or developer teams
* Experience building developer-facing platforms or internal developer portals (e.g.custom workflow tooling).
Nice to Have
* Hands-on experience in storage or network engineering within Kubernetes environments (e.g., CSI drivers, dynamic provisioning, CNI plugins, or network policy).
* Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform.
* Background in HPC, Slurm, or GPU-based compute systems for ML/AI workloads.
* Practical experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, etc.).
* Understanding of machine learning frameworks (PyTorch, vLLM, SGLang, etc.).
