The IT Generalist provides frontline technical support for BattleCreek Church, troubleshooting hardware, software, and network-related issues, assisting with service requests, and ensuring a consistent and efficient end-user technology experience. This role supports day-to-day IT operations, including device setup, issue resolution, and managing Help Desk tickets.
Your Day-to-Day
Every day looks different, but here's a snapshot of what you'll be up to:
Technical Support & Maintenance
Test and validate hardware and software functionality; coordinate repairs or replacements with vendors.
Install and support AV systems in conference and collaborative spaces.
Support equipment setups for events, trainings, and meetings as needed.
Set up collaborative audio/video workspaces.
Perform hardware/software updates to ensure systems remain current and secure.
Assist with support of the security camera system (PVMS).
Assist the System Administrator with:
Microsoft 365 Admin Center
Active Directory
Group Policy
Configuration and installation of access points, servers, and related hardware
Networking initiatives and projects
End User Support & Help Desk Operations
Serve as the first point of contact for user-reported IT issues.
Prioritize, assign, and resolve Help Desk tickets in a timely and professional manner.
Document issues and resolutions in the help desk system and maintain accurate historical records.
Script, configure, and deploy desktops, laptops, and peripheral devices for staff and volunteers.
Provide troubleshooting support for Microsoft 365, Windows, mac OS, networking, and printing issues.
Assist users in diagnosing hardware, software, and user-related errors and guide them through solutions.
Manage MDM (Mobile Device Management) solutions for both Windows and Mac.
Monitor and manage ticket metrics, proactively addressing high-priority or overdue requests.
Training & Documentation
Develop or revise end-user training guides, FAQs, and documentation for internal systems.
Assist in onboarding/offboarding processes, including account setup and device provisioning.
Educate users on IT best practices and tools used within the church environment.
Perform other church duties as assigned by the Sr. Director of IT/Facilities to help all people, of all ages, all the time, advance in their journey with Christ
What We're Looking For
The must-haves for this role:
Education & Experience: We are looking for someone with a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred (but it is not required) and 2 years of experience in IT support or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certifications in CompTIA A+/Network+, Microsoft certifications, or similar are preferred.
Skills & Strengths: We are looking for someone who:

Experience you will need:
A Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Petroleum, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline is required, with a master's degree preferred but not required
A minimum of 5 years of energy industry experience; 3 years of which are in process plants, is preferred but not required
Excellent technical proficiency with process simulators such as ProMax, HYSYS, Symmetry, etc., and advanced level skills with Microsoft Office software including Excel is required
The ability to work with minimal supervision and prioritize workload to meet due dates is required
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills and a detail-orientated approach, while remaining creative and innovative, are required
Proficiency in effectively communicating process concepts to both internal and external customers is required
A Registered Professional Engineer license is preferred but not required

Overview

Responsibilities
Operate, monitor, repair and maintain the facility's audio-visual, environmental controls, emergency power, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and lighting systems as required for the safe and efficient operation of the facility.
Install, repair and maintain plumbing systems, fixtures and piping equipment and controls.
Repair and rebuild various items such as motors, compressors and ice machines.
Follow the preventive maintenance program, energy management program and standard operating procedures for all machinery and equipment.
Perform repairs and maintenance tasks such as painting, wall repair, patching, re-lamping, replacing ceiling tiles, filters and belts as required.
Record and log all work performed, complete work order slips and compile all required reports in a timely and complete manner.
Assist other Operation Department divisions to expedite event conversions as needed.
Promote a safe working environment for all employees by following the life safety and emergency program as needed.
Read and interpret performance charts and control panels to evaluate the efficiency of each system.
May occasionally have to enter areas where fumes, airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals are present.
Respond to routine, precautionary and emergency alarms from building automation and life safety systems.

Qualifications
Understand the methods, principles and practices required for the operation and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical systems. Properly use all equipment needed to perform required duties.
Be familiar with operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility.
Know repair techniques in plumbing, electrical wiring and ventilating systems to be able to assist or carry out repairs as needed.
Have basic understanding of door hardware, locks, key machine, door closers, etc.
Possess any licenses, certificates or training required by local, state or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility.
Read and comprehend blueprints, drawings and other related materials.
Follow and adhere to all safety precautions, building codes, rules, regulations, risk management and emergency procedures.
Meet the physical demands of this job, which include being able to get in and around the facility (requires personal mobility), lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, bending, moving, climbing, working from various heights, and moderate to loud noises.
Operate equipment such as light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts, scrubbing machines or other light power driven equipment.
Operate monitoring controls and a personal computer (light use) using Windows and Microsoft Office software.
