Overview We are seeking a Network Engineer to join the Upstream Computer Operations Department. The Upstream Computer Operations Department is responsible for the supporting the network infrastructure across two main upstream data centers, two disaster recovery sites, and 14 user buildings, with a support scope that includes configuring and managing access, distribution switches, and core routers, as well as security infrastructure such as firewalls, NAC, and IDPS, and providing support for load balancers and critical network services like DNS and DHCP. Your primary role is to support the Upstream Digital Center (UDC) network infrastructure and services. Key Responsibilities As a successful candidate you will be required to perform the following: Operating and maintaining the UDC network infrastructure, including: data center networks, user building networks, and DR site networks. Troubleshooting and resolving complex network issues using tools like: Wireshark, tcpdump, and network simulators. Developing and implementing network automation scripts and workflows using tools like Ansible, Python, and Terraform. Ensuring the stability, security, and performance of all network systems, including cloud-based services and DR sites. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives. Developing and maintaining technical documentation and diagrams of network systems, including data center networks, user building networks, and DR site networks. Staying up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, and making recommendations for network upgrades and improvements. Conduct proof of concepts (POCs) for new technologies in network, security and cloud services. Participating in on-call rotations and providing 24/7 support as required. Minimum Requirements As a successful candidate you will hold a: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Communication Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. 10+ years of experience in network engineering and architecture on carrier IP networks with hands-on in routing, switching and load balancing experience in cloud provider environment. 7+ years of experience in IP networks (running Ethernet, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, Layer 2 Switching, VRFs ,etc.) 7+ years of experience troubleshooting and resolving complex routing and switching problems in an IP based carrier network Experience with Linux and excellent knowledge of core network services (DNS, SMTP, NTP, syslog, HTTP). As a Journeyman Network Operations Engineer (Tier 2), you will provide mid-level operational support for enterprise network systems. This position serves as the key escalation between Tier 1 personnel and senior engineering staff, ensuring troubleshooting, incident resolution, and system performance within mission-critical environments. This role supports the maintenance, configuration, and monitoring of routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless technologies as part of a broader modernization effort. The Journeyman Network Operations Engineer (Tier 2) plays a critical role in ensuring continuity of operations, implementing approved changes, and maintaining compliance with DoD standards and operational procedures. Position will be located at Buckley SFB. This position is contingent upon successful contract award to V2X. #clearance Responsibilities Major Job Activities: + Multi-disciplined network engineer with experience maintaining and fixing wired, wireless, and mobile broadband solutions in response to network faults, errors, incidents, and problems. + Provides touch labor for all network devices. + Oversee monitoring of network assets per SLAs. + Performs break / fix and maintenance activities. + Monitors network dashboards, analyzing problems, troubleshooting escalated incidents, coordinating, and reporting all operational information concerning the enterprise network infrastructure. + Provides subject matter expertise for LAN, WAN, firewalls, and other network technologies. + Investigates and diagnoses incidents to restore failed network services as quickly as possible. + Leads root cause analysis and suggests resolutions for network infrastructure problems. + Installs and supports remote access platforms such as VPN, Terminal Services, and Citrix. + Has a fundamental understanding of network engineering concepts and adapts to emerging technologies as they are introduced to the environment. + Knowledge of network protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP. + Experience with Cisco command line interface and configuration. Troubleshoots complex problems to closure. + Assesses and implements Change Requests as needed in accordance with the Change Management process. + Hands-on technical position that provides Tier 2 technical expertise. + Performs site surveys, configuration and engineering, installation planning, and documentation services for the customer as they relate to all network services. + Experience working with wireless technologies, VPNs, IPSs, WAN Accelerators, and associated technologies. Material & Equipment Directly Used: General user capabilities of Microsoft software applications required (primarily Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word and Microsoft Teams or SharePoint). Working Environment: Office environment with potential to support austere locations. Physical Activities: Must be able to lift / carry 50 lbs. Qualifications Education / Certifications: + Technical BA / BS Degree; Or + High School Diploma or Associate Degree. + IAT III baseline certification (CASP CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP (or Associate), GCED, GCIH). + CCNA or equivalent. + (Preferred) ITIL v3. Experience / Skills: + 5 years with BA / BS Degree; Or + Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Network Operations Engineer for large, complex programs / systems in a Network Operations Center environment with a High School or Associate Degree. + Experience supporting DAF and local base environments. + Experience in utilizing ITIL v3 or ITSM frameworks. Clearance Requirement: + This position requires an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret (Tier 3) level clearance.
