About the Job We're looking for a Corporate Network Engineer to join our IT team and establish the network infrastructure that will enable our teams to advance renewable energy technology and ocean-based computing. You'll be building from the ground up-designing and implementing the corporate office network infrastructure that connects our Portland headquarters, lab facilities, and future locations as we scale. This is a foundational technical role. You'll own the architecture and operation of our corporate networks, including wired and wireless infrastructure, while also establishing the standards, automation, and documentation that future network engineers will rely on. You'll bring both depth of networking expertise and the flexibility to work in a startup environment, balancing immediate operational needs with long-term scalability. This role requires regular on-site presence in our Portland office and facilities. What You'll Do Design and implement corporate office network infrastructure from the ground up, including wired and wireless networks, across our Portland campus and future locations. Establish network standards, best practices, and architectural patterns that will scale as we rapidly expand our facilities and headcount. Build and maintain high-performance wireless networks that support dense user environments, lab equipment, and diverse device requirements. Develop automation tools and monitoring solutions to ensure network reliability and rapid issue resolution. Partner with Facilities team to plan and integrate network infrastructure into new office, lab and industrial facility buildouts and expansions. The K3s Network Engineer will focus on networking for K3s clusters deployed across hybrid architectures (x86, ARM, accelerators). The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining cluster networking that integrates with external systems. This includes writing Kubernetes controllers, managing IP address allocation, configuring VLANs outside of K3s and exposing them inside, extending networking with Multus CNI, and ensuring clusters support advanced CNI (Cilium/Calico) and bare-metal load balancing. The engineer ensures application and infrastructure networking is reliable, scalable, and secure. Responsibilities Cluster Networking Architecture Design and implement networking for K3s hybrid clusters with support for multi-interface and multi-network scenarios. Configure, extend, and optimize CNI plugins, with a focus on Multus and Cilium/Calico. Enable workloads to use VLAN-backed networks, SR-IOV, or multiple interfaces when required. Deploy and manage bare-metal load balancers (e.g., MetalLB, BGP) for reliable service exposure. IP & DNS Management Integrate cluster networking with upstream DNS servers for service discovery and external resolution. Manage IP address allocation across nodes, pods, and external interfaces. Implement IPAM solutions that handle hybrid hardware and multi-tenant use cases. Hybrid Network Integration Bridge cluster networking with underlay/overlay networks (e.g., VLANs, BGP). Security & Observability Implement network policies, encryption, and isolation across multiple CNIs. Collaboration & Documentation Work closely with DevOps, SRE, and Hardware teams to align networking design with PaaS requirements.
