Network engineer technician job description

· Minimum of 4 years of Network Engineering experience.

• Solid understanding of network protocols (SSL/TLS, DNS, DHCP, SFTP, SMTP, HSRP, LDAP, HSRP, VRRP, 802.1x, etc.)
• Must be highly technical with hands-on ability in implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices, including Firewalls (Cisco ASA/Firepower & Sophos UTM), Routers (Cisco), Switches (Cisco & HP/Aruba), Wireless (Ruckus & HP/Aruba) and network monitoring tools (Nagios, etc.)
• Solid experience in Cisco and HP/Aruba switches, Cisco ASA/Firepower Firewalls, and Sophos UTM Firewalls.
• Proficient in private and public WAN technologies (VPN, MPLS, SDWAN).
• Knowledge of technologies related to SDWAN, MPLS, QoS, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and Traffic Engineering.
• Network cabling and management.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Cloud networking experience in Azure or AWS will be a strong plus.
• Experience in a network semiconductor industry with sub-contract manufacturing environments is a strong plus.

Designs and plans network communications systems. Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. Conducts cost/benefit analysis and provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Conducts testing of network design. Responsible for monitoring network hardware operations to ensure properly set configuration options. Plans implementation of enhancements and upgrades to the network. Advises network users of hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network. May be assigned responsibility for the management of the systems administration function, including associated staff.

Perform as a consultant in highly specialized, leading edge information technologies and methodologies.

Provide highly technical and specialized guidance concerning automated solutions to complex information processing problems.

Manages the project work as defined by the government. Lead medium to large complex projects and major phases of very large projects.

Provides highly technical and specialized guidance and solutions to complex IT problems; performs elaborate analyses and studies.
Requires 10 to 12 years with BS/BA or 8 to 10 years with MS/MA or 5 to 7 years with PhD.
Basic:
• Must have experience with Ciena products and an understanding of SONET/SDH.
• Must have Security+, CASP, or CISSP.
• Able to design, test and implement Global telecommunications architecture using various transport networks.
• Strong working knowledge of TDM and DWDM networking and test equipment
Preferred:
• Experience with Cisco, and Juniper products, ATM, Linux, scripting, and VMware is a plus.
• Experience with optical equipment from Ciena, Cisco, Infinera, Nokia
• Experience with major service providers ATT, Nextel, Verizon
• Experience with SONET, OTN, Long Haul and Ultra Long Haul
• Advanced product certifications e.g., CCNA, CCNP, CCIE.

Colorado Salary Minimum: $90,022.40
Colorado Salary Maximum:$192,441.60

The Network Engineer's role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, video, and wireless network services. This is achieved by designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Network Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.
Responsibilities
ACQUISITION & DEPLOYMENT
• Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, and other hardware.
• Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
• Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
• Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT
• Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
• Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
• Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
• Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances.
• Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
• Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
• Participate in managing all network security solutions.
• Provide guidance to junior members of the team.
Qualifications
Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.

Experience (required and preferred):
• CCNA required.
• CCNP preferred.
• CCNA Security / CCNP Security preferred.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills required.
• Must project a professional company image through in-person and phone interactions at all times.
• 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
