Hughes has an opportunity for MTS 3 - Software (Network Devices). This position will be located at our office in Germantown, MD.
Responsibilities:
Perform full life-cycle application development to design, test, deliver and maintain software modules and subsystems to optimize the performance of the network devices (e.g. Network Gateways and Satellite Base Stations) employed in Satellite Network and Broad Band Data operations.Develop and fully document multithreaded applications based on object-oriented design, employing C++ in a Linux environment to perform network bandwidth management, and improve packet transfer and CPU performance.Design C++ applications to access, program and monitor the hardware components of network devices; and for GUI backends to monitor network applications.Develop and enhance network applications involving IP packet processing. Create the Linux build environment for developing C/C++ applications.Execute application code review, unit testing and integration testing, employing Wireshark and GNU Project Debugger (GDB) for debugging and testing purposes, and develop Bash Shell Scripts to automate portions of the development process.Develop Python scripts for configuration of test servers and to assist with the unit testing.Deploy network applications during testing and release phase, including executing Bash Scripting to automate deployment tasks.

Basic Requirements:
Master's degree in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering/Networking, or Software Engineering field and 6 months experience in the job offered or in a software developer or computer programmer position.As an alternative, a Bachelor's degree in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering/Networking, or Software Engineering field and 5 years of experience in the job offered or in a software developer or computer programmer position will be acceptable.

Special Requirements:
Six months of experience employing C or C++ to develop applications in a Linux environment.Six months of experience designing Bash or Python scripting.
