The Medical Assistant participates in the delivery of excellent medical services in a patient centered environment with an emphasis on the prevention of disease; preparation of the patient for examination and/or procedures; administers medications under direction of provider; performs in office lab procedures and phlebotomy on pediatric and adult patients; sterilizes instruments and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations. Job Description: Provides clinically based concurrent and retrospective review of inpatient medical records to evaluate the utilization
and documentation of acute care services. The goal of concurrent review includes facilitation of appropriate physician documentation of care delivered to accurately reflect patient severity of illness and risk of mortality. Specific reviews are both determined internally and by requirements/requests of external payers or regulatory agencies and play a significant role in reporting quality of care outcomes and in obtaining accurate and compliant reimbursement for acute care services.
Qualifications
Education: Associates or Bachelors Degree in Nursing or International Medical Graduate
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in an acute care setting; critical care,
medical/surgical or Emergency Department nursing preferred.
Technical Skills: Computer proficiency to include word processing, databases, and spreadsheets. Familiarity
with the operation of basic office equipment.
License/Certification: Current RN license in the state in which they reside/practice if Registered Nurse.
Other Knowledge of age-specific needs and elements of disease processes and related procedures
required. Strong broad-based clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology/physiology
of disease processes. Working knowledge of inpatient admission criteria, Medicare
reimbursement system and coding systems preferred, but not required. Must possess
excellent written and verbal communication skills and critical thinking skills. Ability to work
independently in a time oriented environment is essential.

Key Responsibilities (including traditional MA duties plus athletic training-specific tasks):
Patient rooming, vital signs, and thorough history taking with focus on mechanism of injury
Scribing detailed sports medicine encounters in the EMR (NextGen)
Assisting with in-clinic procedures (joint injections, aspirations, fracture/dislocation reductions)
Application and removal of casts, splints, functional braces, and durable medical equipment (DME)
Providing on-site event coverage for local high school games or community athletic events
Assisting with pre-participation physicals and sports clearance evaluations
Gait analysis, functional movement screening, and patient education on return-to-play protocols
Submitting referrals, prior authorizations, pharmacy orders, and responding to patient messages/calls
Maintaining clean and stocked exam rooms and procedure areas
Other clinical and administrative duties as needed
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Current Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer (ATC)
Nevada state licensure as an Athletic Trainer (or eligible)
Previous experience as a certified athletic trainer (collegiate, high school, clinic, or outreach setting preferred)
Strong foundational knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and sports-related injuries
Excellent communication skills and ability to connect with athletes of all ages and levels
Proficient with computers/EMR and quick learner
Warm, professional demeanor with ability to calm anxious or frustrated patients/parents
Team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment
Preferred (but not required):
Previous medical assistant or orthopedic clinic experience
Experience with ModMed EMR

8. Processes requests for prescription medication refills according to protocol.

Works in conjunction with the entire clinic staff to provide a patient centered care team with effective communication being the common denominator.
Assists the physicians and providers by collecting patient vital signs and other pertinent data.
Escorts the patients to exam rooms, takes weight and vital signs and assists in determining medical problem.
Obtains brief medical history to include age, date of birth, chief complaint, current medications with dosage and allergies.
Assists physicians/providers with minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
Sterilization and set up of instruments.
Prepares examination rooms and instruments.
Stocks supplies.
Effectively provides explanations and educates patient's families regarding treatments and interventions.
Schedules patients for testing procedures. Obtains test results and ensures that lab reports, x-rays and other Information is in the medical record prior to the appointment and scanned in the medical record according to office guidelines.
Authorizes and faxes to pharmacy requests for refills per provider instruction.
Ensures routine medical office duties are completed as assigned, to include, emptying waste baskets, cleaning and disinfecting exam room counters and exam tables, ordering medical supplies, equipment controls - daily, weekly, and monthly.
Ensures that all aspects of patient care and observations are documented, accurately and timely.
Communication
Answers telephones, routes callers, takes messages and provides routine information to callers.
Returns Phone calls in a timely manner.
Relays messages to appropriate staff members through In Basket of EMR.
Efficient with working in EMR and the in Basket within EMR.

The Medical Assistant participates in the delivery of excellent medical services in a patient centered environment with an emphasis on the prevention of disease; preparation of the patient for examination and/or procedures; administers medications under direction of provider; performs in office lab procedures and phlebotomy on pediatric and adult patients; sterilizes instruments and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations. This will include actively participating in and supporting quality improvement activities and the clinical practice teams with these efforts. This position will cover the Sierra Office in Carson City, the Willow Office in Reno, and will also serve as back-up for the front office at the Willow location in Reno.
