Provide comprehensive and appropriate dental care and treatment to patients. Provide supervision to Dental Assistant(s) and Dental Hygienist(s) as assigned.
Specific Responsibilities

Operational Excellence:
Ensure the delivery of all dental treatment and care is consistent with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards, including clinic policies and quality initiatives.
Understand and ensure all practices and procedures related to the delivery of dental services are consistent with contracted protocols and procedures.
Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
Essential Functions:
Provide routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis and treatment plans, general restorative procedure, removable prosthetics, uncomplicated endodontics and minor oral surgery.
Initiate and interpret x-ray and lab studies.
Administer and prescribe anesthetics and medications.
Refer patients for specialty care to other clinic programs or outside agencies as appropriate.
Supervise Dental Assistant and Dental Hygienist.
Provide dental and oral health education to patients and families.
Actively participate in community dental programs.
Manage difficult clients and patients, demonstrating interpersonal savvy and influence skills.
Demonstrate high degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry and associated charting requirements.
Performs peer reviews as directed by the Clinic Coordinator in compliance of clinic policy.
Education:
DDS from an accredited educational institution.
Must be licensed and able to practice as a dentist in the state of Wisconsin.
Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques/CPR.

Qualifications:
* Completion of accredited course in dental assisting required or current CDA (Certified Dental Assistant) but willing to train the right person!
* Ability to attend to multiple tasks at the same time and to prioritize assignments and responsibilities to ensure compliance with established deadlines and protocols.

The Dental Assistant is a key member of N.E.W. Community Clinic (NEWCC) responsible for the organization's operational excellence. Assists with the operation of the clinic by performing chair side dental assistant and patient care functions.

Responsible for sterilization, preparation and inventory control of dental instruments and supplies.
Serves as dentist's or dental hygienist's chair-side assistant.
Prepares operatory for patient treatment as per dental department protocols and the dentist's or dental hygienist's directions.
Properly captures digital radiographs that are diagnostic (root apices/no overlapping). Radiographs properly labeled.
Performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by the dentist in accordance with state regulations, laws, dental department directives, and protocols.
Monitors patient flow, and assists the dental director, dentist(s) and dental hygienist(s) in assuring that all patient records and documents are properly and accurately completed and filed.
Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and post-operative instructions
Insures the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with dental department directive, center policy, as well as state and federal regulation(s).
Participates in appropriate health promotion/disease prevention activities, both on-site and off-site as required.
Travels when necessary to meet operational needs.
Qualifications:
Completion of accredited course in dental assisting required or current CDA (Certified Dental Assistant) but willing to train the right person!
Ability to attend to multiple tasks at the same time and to prioritize assignments and responsibilities to ensure compliance with established deadlines and protocols.
Effective oral and written communication skills in English are required. Effective oral communication skills in Spanish preferred.
Must be qualified in basic life support techniques/CPR.

Position Summary:

Communicate referrals for patients requiring services not offered at N.E.W. Community Clinic taking into consideration available community resources and the financial challenges associated with our patients.
Review incoming diagnostic reports (e.g. lab, x-ray, EKG) in electronic medical record and follow-up in a timely manner.
Comply with the N.E.W. Community Clinic Infection Control plan while ensuring compliance by support staff.
Document patient care, services, and referrals using electronic medical record system.
Possess a thorough knowledge of the requirements for reporting communicable diseases in the State of Wisconsin and make appropriate referrals.
Demonstrate adaptability in responding to changing trends in nursing and share knowledge and experience.
Communicate effectively with patients, staff, outside agencies, students, volunteers, and other visitors to the clinic.
Protect confidentiality as directed by HIPPA regulations.
Maintain regular clinical review meetings with collaborating physician.
Work effectively as a member of the health care team.
Carry out professional nursing role as described in the Wisconsin Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association Social Policy Statement.
Maintain professional continuing education certification requirements and unencumbered professional license.
Flexibility to work at other sites within the N.E.W. Clinic and outside facilities as needed.
Able to work well with a diversified population and cultures with varied lifestyles.

Able to work as part of a team with minimal supervision.
Other Responsibilities:
Assist clinic leadership in preparation of yearly program goals and objectives.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Education:

Experience:
Experience in the role of Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner a plus.
Experience and understanding of diverse cultural groups in the community.
Valid driver's license, registration, auto insurance, and automobile.
