Position Purpose: The Operating Room Certified Technician is responsible for the provision of patient care related to the scrub functions during an operative procedure and assisting in care related to patient outcomes. Interpersonal Relationships: As a representative of NEBSC, all comments attitudes, actions and behaviors have a direct effect on the Facility's image and perceptions of quality service. Interaction with patients, families, physicians, referral sources, affiliating schools, visitors, volunteers, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork which is congruent with Facility standards and guidelines to promote positive relations. Position Requirements: Current certification as an Operating Room Technician. Skills and Abilities: Ability to correlate clinical data with patient's medical and nursing care. Ability to set priorities. Ability to take direction from others and provide information that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency on the unit. Ability to communicate well with Physicians, Patients, Co-workers, etc. Ability to demonstrate flexibility with assignments and schedule. Essential Position Responsibilities: Job Knowledge Functions as a scrub technician in the Operating Room. Assists with gowning and gloving other members of the surgical team. Assists with the preparation of the Operating Room for surgical procedures. Assists with skin preparations and with draping of patients. Assists with care, preparation, maintenance and after-care of sterile and un-sterile supplies and equipment. Knows and practices the principles and techniques of sterile technique. Handles specimens in accordance with procedures. Removes drape at end of procedure, cleanses the patient of prep solution and applies dressing as needed. Cleans instruments and equipment after use and returns it to proper area for storage for processing. Respects patient's right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality. Differentiates sterilization methods required for specific instruments and equipment. Participates as delegated in various committee functions. Assists with housekeeping duties as necessary to provide a safe environment. Participates in inventory count and materials management functions. Participates in sponge, instrument and needle count with the circulating nurse as deemed necessary. Participates in departmental conferences, orientation of new personnel and in-service programs as assigned. Assists with stocking, replenishing and preparation of supplies. Updates knowledge in surgical techniques and related nursing care. Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual responsibility. Performs all other duties assigned by supervisor. Participates in the Quality Improvement process and activities including the areas of Safety, Infection Control, Patient Education/Teaching, Documentation, Adherence to Guidelines for Cleaning/Decontamination of the Center, Adherence to guidelines for Sterilization of Instruments and supplies, Patient Satisfaction, Physician Satisfaction, Compliance with OSHA Standards, and Risk Management. Possesses clinical skills necessary to provide quality care to all patient age populations from pediatric to geriatric patients. Service Commitment Utilizes time effectively. Daily, weekly, monthly planning of equipment and supplies. Restocking of O.R. Suites. Rooms prepared in advance for surgical day. (e.g. Cases picked, equipment needs met and determined prior to day of surgery, etc.). Completes all documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and up to date information in accordance with established standards. Adheres to established surgery center safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Demonstrates the competent usage of proper body mechanics in all activities. Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies manager. Completes all employee/patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner, as required by facility policy. Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for department and facility. Practices infection control and standard precautions as instructed or trained. Regularly maintains work area and equipment in a pristine manner. Demonstrates the safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation. Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor. Pride Factor Maintains and evaluates own clinical expertise and surgery center clinical practice. Participates in a yearly self-evaluation. Attends 75% of unit based staff meetings and demonstrates review of minutes for all others. Demonstrates the importance of continuing education to the performance of facility responsibilities and growth in profession. Maintains and displays appropriate knowledge of professional developments through printed material or other sources. Attends professional training seminars when appropriate for job development and shares information with other staff members. Attends and participates in all applicable surgery center training and development workshops scheduled by the facility. Maintains dress and appearance according to standards as observed by management. Compliance Demonstrates the safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation. Service Satisfaction Provides a report to relief personnel which is accurate, concise and pertinent to the patient's condition and response to care. Provides pertinent procedural information to the care team. Discuss procedural information with other health team members in an appropriate environment. Maintains confidentiality of all facility and patient information as required by facility policy. Fosters a positive and professional surgery center environment by interacting with all people in a considerate, helpful and courteous manner by participating as a flexible team member. Diffuses/resolves conflict by appropriately communicating with those involved. Accepts constructive criticism and gives suggestions in a professional manner. Skill Review Provides input regarding equipment/supply needs. Completes patient charges in accordance with facility procedure. Demonstrates sound cost containment techniques. Attendance Maintains attendance according to guidelines and policy established by facility. Adheres to tardiness policy. Provides notification for unscheduled absences or tardiness in accordance with established departmental procedures. Machines/Equipment Used: Operating Room Clinical equipment used for patient care, i.e., video cameras, lasers, shavers, electrosurgical units. Office equipment: Computer, printers and coping machine. Environmental Conditions: Indoors in climate-controlled environment. Patient care environment with potential exposure to unpleasant odors, to blood and body fluids which may carry infection, to infectious disease, and to chemical and electrical hazards. Occasional exposure to outdoor climate. Physical Requirements: Good visual acuity, accurate color vision. Ability to lift/transfer patients more than 100 pounds, which may require pushing, pulling and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. Ability to reach, grasp, use fine finger movement and feel fine sensation to discern temperature, texture, size and shape. Ability to speak and hear. Degree of Supervision for this Position: Minimal must be self-directed and able to work independently.

Our state-of-the-art facility provides exceptional medical and surgical services for the whole family. * The Surgical Tech at Mass General Brigham Danvers location plays an important role in the operating room and is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the operating room environment, as well assists with the peri-operative care of patients. * They work closely with surgeons and nurses to ensure the smooth and efficient function of the operating room. A Surgical Tech must have a strong understanding of sterile techniques and be able to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment. * Our environment is fast-paced, energetic, collaborative, and innovative. * Our patient population spans the range from neonates to seniors, with 16 services and 58 operating rooms with multiple subspecialties Job Summary * Responsible for assisting surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in various surgical procedures and playing a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the operating room * Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures. * Set up sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment required for the surgery. * Transport patients to the operating room, help with positioning on the surgical table, and ensure their safety and comfort during the procedure. * Pass instruments, supplies, and equipment to the surgical team during procedures. * Follow proper sterilization techniques to ensure the cleanliness and sterility of surgical instruments and supplies. * Maintain accurate and complete documentation of surgical procedures, including counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments used. * Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team. * Assist in preparing the surgical site by applying sterile drapes and solutions. * Secure and manage surgical drains and catheters as directed by the surgeon.
