Job Description
New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is currently seeking Per Diem RN Care Manager known internally as Nurse Navigators to work directly with physician led teams in our Topsham Clinic . Experience in oncology, preferred. RNs with ED experience, Acute Care management, or with a strong desire to work in oncology are encouraged to apply. Willing to train dedicated RNs with a willingness to learn.
RN Care Managers/Nurse Navigators use oncology clinical knowledge to offer individualized care to patients, families, and caregivers to help navigate along the health care continuum. They provide nursing assessments and the triage of patient care needs over the phone and in the office. Offering advice and counsel to patients as well as advising physicians of patient needs and recommended interventions. They work collaboratively with physicians, APP's, RN peers, Patient Care Coordinators, and other clinical and non-clinical personal within and outside the practice.
NECS is a private medical practice composed of 18 oncologists and hematologists serving the region from 6 different locations in Maine and New Hampshire. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Point of contact for referring physicians, patients, and caregivers to assist with patient scheduling and coordination of care.
Assist physicians; conduct patient assessments.
Receive patient telephone calls and intervene appropriately for that patient's specific needs promptly. Alert physician as needed to patient needs that require physician intervention.
Follow up with patients as needed by telephone, to ensure compliance with treatment guidelines and to evaluate changing or uncertain clinical situations.
Draw blood from ports, central lines, and peripheral IV access. Perform other procedures as needed.
Ensures follow-up appointments and tests/procedures are scheduled for patients.
Maintain patient care standards and assures that patient care functions, such as assessment, treatment, and documentation are completed safely and effectively.
Maintain open and effective communication with all physicians, employees, and vendors.
Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences, in-services and continuing education programs, national and regional professional organizations, and community-sponsored programs specific to Oncology and Hematology.
Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice and provide recommendations on practice clinical policies and processes to practice Directors
Coordinate patient care responsibilities within the scope of the practice for licensed and unlicensed health care providers.
Demonstrates respect for the life, dignity, and rights of all persons.
Travel: Rare.
Licensed Nurse within the State of Maine required
2-5 years plus nursing professional experience required.
Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
Two years of Hematology/Chemotherapy/Oncologynursing experience preferred
OCN Certification Preferred
Must have ONS Chemotherapy & Bio-therapy Certification or have the ability to get certification within 3 months of employment supported through the orientation process.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff
Must be detail-oriented, have strong follow-up skills, and be able to manage multiple priorities.

Carries out plan of care to achieve desired patient outcomes. 5. Provides patient care that is specific to the setting, identified needs and plan; ensures that the care provided is appropriate to the severity of the disease, condition, impairment or disability. 6. Oversees activities of ancillary and support team members. 7. Identifies teaching opportunities and provides the resources necessary for achieving the educational goals of the patients. 8. Communications issues/concerns to the Charge Nurse, Clinical Manager and/or physician as appropriate. 9. Documents patient care and concerns in the patient record.

The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Clinical Director in carrying out day-to-day aspects of running clinical operations and assisting with the clinical schedule. This position supervises all clinical staff Nurse Navigators, for the clinic at Rock Row. This clinic includes The Center for Breast Health, High Risk Cancer Genetics Survivorship and Radiation Oncology clinic. This position helps the Clinic Director solve work problems to meet patient care and quality standards and to ensure the proper use of company property and safe work practices of employees. This individual is often responsible for answering technical questions. Communicates issues to the appropriate NECS Manager or Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coaches develops and leads healthcare team members in the performance of patient care procedures and processes with a focus on safety and competence.
Approves timecards for direct reports.
Manages and maintains staff schedule electronically, ensuring appropriate staffing for the clinic
Interviews job applicants, make hiring recommendations, help coordinate new hire orientation. Ensures all necessary training is completed.
Performs the various duties of an oncologynurse based on daily practice needs. Administers chemotherapy to patients, works as a primary nurse, or provides phone triage on a regular basis.
Assists in the development of department/division goals and works to achieve these related to Treatment Rooms and Clinic. The Nurse Supervisor acts as a role model for staff including compliance with company policies and procedures, incorporating organizational initiatives and adapting to changes in clinical care, research, and patient safety.
Ensures that resources, supplies, and materials are available.
Maintains patient care standards and assures that patient care functions, such as assessment, treatment and documentation, are completed safely and effectively.
Initiates and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response within practice protocol.
Maintains open and effective communication with all physicians, employees, and vendors.
Participates in leadership and other meetings as necessary, working collaboratively with all departments.
Travel: Very Minimal. You might need to travel to other locations occasionally, for leadership meetings.
Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
Licensed Nurse within the State of Maine required
Two years of Hematology/Chemotherapy/Oncologynursing experience preferred
Five plus years of nursing experience, required
Previous experience as a Charge Nurse preferred
ONS Chemotherapy & Bio-therapy Certification required or have the ability to get certification within one year of employment.
OCN Certification required or the ability to obtain based on ONCC guidelines.
