The Utilization Management Specialist (UMS) screens patients to determine the appropriate level of care through the use of clinical criteria, the Medicare Inpatient Only List, and individual payer requirements. The Utilization Management Specialist collects data, completes audits, and generates reports based on trends and various improvement initiatives. The Utilization Management Specialist interacts with Care Coordination, Coding, Revenue Integrity, Compliance, Physician Advisors, Physicians, and payers to establish level of care. The UMS Actively participates in the physician Advisor program to assist in the correct LOC, and concurrent denials management. I. Major Responsibilities: 1. Reviews admissions to ensure status is appropriate and that authorization has been appropriately obtained and is in compliance with Medicare or other payer requirements standards of care. 2. Initiates discussions with the attending physician, advanced practice providers (APP), physician advisors, and or case managers for patients who do not meet appropriateness criteria and recommend alternate level of care. 3. Intervenes with the payer when needed to a resolve denial and level of care issues. 4. Communicate and facilitate the P2P process between physician advisor and payer physician advisor. Documents outcome. 5. Documents clinical information necessary to obtain approval from the payer as indicated in the patient medical record. 6. This includes but is not limited to: receiving daily medication orders from vendors, monitoring inventory levels, rotating stock, and effectively utilizing return process to ensure proper credit is received from drug wholesaler. Position: Outpatient Pharmacy Department: Inventory Specialist Schedule: Full Time ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: Validates and processing daily medication shipments by reviewing for accuracy, ensuring proper storage conditions and reconciling within vendor systems. Facilitates the management of medication inventories by; making sure drug product is within date, rotate inventory as necessary, stored within USP guidelines, timely and accurate stocking of daily wholesaler deliveries. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * Extensive sitting, standing and computer use. * Extend and reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers. * Ability to properly lift up to 50 pounds. * Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. * Must be able to work for extended periods of time standing, sitting, walking, reaching with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk and hear. * Must be able to work at heights while using powered industrial trucks and proper safety PPE. * Moderate to high computer use. * Fluency in the English language * Some travel is required. Position Summary The Pharmacy Inventory Technician has the primary responsibility for the inventory within the pharmacy. This includes the purchasing and receiving of pharmaceuticals, the maintenance and control of that inventory, and all recordkeeping associated with that inventory. Job Description Key Outcomes: * Verifies line item receipt of wholesaler and direct vendor orders received on a daily basis.. Coordinates all activities related to drug recalls in the pharmacy. * Collaborates with, Mail Order Pharmacy Manager, and Supervisor Pharmacy Operations, and pharmacist team on use of new drug products, min/max inventory level establishment, DAW and Birth Control Dispensing lists, and a variety of other projects aimed at enhanced inventory control. * Assists in the Review and updates of inventory related policies and procedures. * Works with Supervisor Pharmacy Operations in a timely manner to review a variety of inventory management reports including but not limited to discontinued drugs, less expensive generic reports, pricing reports, etc.. * Manages responsibility for cycle counts in the Mail Order Pharmacy. * Oversees and participates in the bi-annual inventory process. * Serves as a resource to pharmacists and technicians in the pharmacy regarding inventory related questions. * Proactively uses available resources to find inventory related savings. * Completes all Pharmacy Technician responsibilities as requested. * Contacts members regarding backorder & unavailable medications to keep members informed and provides options / alternatives Education/Experience * High school diploma is required * 2 years - pharmacy technician experience required * Experience with pharmacy purchasing and receiving is preferred Required License(s) and/or Certification(s): * Must have current pharmacy technician registration in the state Skills/Knowledge/Competencies (Behaviors): * Moderate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook) * Knowledge of medical terminology, generic/brand name drugs and strong math skills preferred * Demonstrated moderate analytical skills * Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills * Demonstrated skill in organization, prioritization, and multi-tasking * Ability to think independently and confidently recommend solutions and/or changes * Ability to effectively work with co-workers * Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills and attention to detail There are additional competencies linked to individual contributor, provider and leadership roles.
