New Hope Community company history timeline

1979

New Hope’s story began in Attleboro, MA, in 1979 when Edith Palmer and a small group of her friends realized that domestic violence was a huge yet largely silent problem in their community.

1981

Two years after its founding, in 1981, New Hope opened its first outreach office in Attleboro, expanding its support services and adding court advocacy to provide survivors of domestic violence with additional protections they needed to become safe.

1982

1982 – A lot on Spring Street, next to New Hope Center, was acquired to expand the facility.

1984

The scope and geography of New Hope’s services continued to grow, and in 1984, the mission was expanded to include services to survivors of sexual violence.

1984 – New Hope remodeled the Wall Street building and established a screen print business with workshop clients in job training.

1985

1985 – Preschool classroom opened at First Christian Church in Scottsburg.

1988

1988 – A new facility, Kids Place, was built and opened in October with capacity for 80 children.

2000

2000 – New Hope was actively involved in the affordable housing tax credit program and broke ground for a 64-unit complex called Highland Glen in Scottsburg.

2008

2008 – New Hope celebrated its 50th Anniversary and achieved its first capital campaign goal, raising over $1.3 million.

2010

2010 – Healthy Families expanded to include Fayette, Union, and Rush counties.

2016

2016 – Davis Zeller Place in Brazil (Clay County) approved for historic senior housing development.

2018

2018 – New Hope celebrated its 60th anniversary.
