Job Description Opened in 1986, New Horizons Village is a welcoming apartment complex, offering adults with physical disabilities the opportunity for self-directed living. We are located on 26 picturesque acres in a quiet residential neighborhood in the Farmington Valley. The village is just twenty minutes southwest of Hartford. New Horizon's mission is to provide affordable housing, accessible transportation, other support services, short-term and outpatient medical rehabilitation, and long-term skilled nursing in supportive communities of care and enable seniors, adults with disabilities and individuals facing challenges to achieve their goals and live life as independently and joyfully as possible. The tenants of New Horizon's recruit, hire, and self-direct PCAs they choose to work with. Each tenant has unique care needs and schedules. PCAs can also choose what tenants they work for based on their availability, offering flexibility and the ability to work as needed or scheduled daily with one or multiple tenants. PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION: Assist the tenant in managing their care and living as independent as possible in a home environment. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Assist tenants in activities of daily living at tenants or designee's direction Tasks may include assisting with hygiene/bathing, dressing, transfers, cooking, feeding, cleaning, shopping, etc. May include accompanying tenant out in community or to medical apts. WORKING CONDITIONS: Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours. EXPERIENCE: Previous Personal Care Experience preferred working with adults with disabilities. CNA not required. SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Must pass a background check Must be compassionate and responsible Must be able to communicate effectively and report concerns appropriately Must have working knowledge of various lift equipment or be willing to learn. New Horizons Village is committed to vetting Personal Care Attendants for our residents and working to coordinate positive matches between PCA's and our Tenants. PCA's identified will be interviewed, selected and paid by each tenant. Payroll is processed on a weekly basis, and funds stewarded by New Horizons Village is passed through to the resident to pay their PCA's. Each resident is your employer.
