The Staff Scientist will prepare grant applications and other scientific communication materials on a wide range of genomic research topics. This role is deeply immersed in the science of NYGC and supports our research team in building and expanding a successful, independently-funded research base. They collaborate with diverse teams of students, postdoctoral fellows, and principal investigators, and relates scientific and strategic goals to individual grant opportunities and other research communications vehicles. Typical grants include individual investigator, multi-PI and research center grants. Key Responsibilities Takes a lead role in preparation and project management of individual and multi-investigator proposals; Provides advice on grantsmanship, editorial support and standardized language for administrative sections; Identifies opportunities for funding Manages the scientific writing process, including proposal management, team-building and coordination; establishing timelines and deliverables; Provides draft preparation, review and revision of grants and scientific writing. Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): PhD in genetics, genomics, cancer biology, neuroscience or related discipline required; 5+ years research experience, including contributing to grant writing, required. About the New York Genome Center The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. Potential Projects Develop comprehensive evaluation and ML Ops frameworks that enable systematic assessment of model performance, supporting rapid iteration and improvement of AI / ML product features. Scale transaction metadata generation systems to billions of financial transactions in a consumer facing app. Implement AI assisted transaction management and personalization features such as personalized categories, income and rent detection, and subscription identification. Implement effective user feedback mechanisms that enable measurement of ML feature product quality and constant improvement. Architect user facing predictive features that depend on fast moving and large scale user transaction data. ABOUT YOU 8+ years of professional experience in machine learning engineering or data science roles, with a proven track record of designing and implementing ML systems at consumer tech scale and speed. Extensive hands-on experience integrating ML and AI methods into production workflows, including creating evaluation tooling and effective user feedback mechanisms to support rapid product development cycles and systematic model evaluation. Experience with prompt engineering and management, creating robust systems for testing and optimizing LLM-based applications. Expert-level proficiency in Python, SQL, and at least a handful of common ML frameworks. Working Typescript knowledge is a plus. You understand ML methods at a fundamental level - deep experience in NLP techniques is a plus. You are a master at taking ambiguous problems, creating clarity, and breaking down work into manageable chunks for implementation. You've owned the development, launch, and maintenance for several scaled ML / AI powered product experiences. You understand basic software engineering and computer science fundamentals and have applied them at consumer grade scale to build ML powered products in production environments. You are a technical leader who can identify both emergent technical opportunities and gaps relative to best practice. An Automated Systems Engineer is responsible for providing hands-on controls and electrical engineering support to correct, repair, and improve machinery, equipment and systems company-wide. This position is full-time, Monday through Friday, from 8:00AM - 4:00PM. Responsibilities: Troubleshoot and repair PLC electrical and control related issues. Design and implement machine changes and improvements, including creating new control systems. Draft new electrical drawings and modify existing electrical drawings. Organize and maintain latest machine PLC programs, HMI programs, electrical drawings, and user manuals. Communicate and work with maintenance and engineering personnel to resolve issues in a timely manner. Procure parts and materials required for machine maintenance. Assist in initiation of change control if new parts deviate from original specifications. Assist in qualification of equipment. Supervise, mentor, and advise mechanics to ensure machine repairs and operations are conducted in a safe, responsible manner. Execute engineering support and maintenance to meet all requirements and yield a greater than 90% first time right. Keep current and implement technology to enhance operation performance. Act as role model exemplifying superb ethical conduct and decision making, teamwork, integrity, agility, respect and accountability. Requirements: Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience Minimum of three years of work experience in related field Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Knowledge of controls software (PLC, HMI, and Servo) from Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Mitsubishi.
