Job Description The intern will work on the Disrupting School Pushout project, which examines how systemic factors contribute to school pushout in New York City. The project connects data on neighborhood-level opportunity structures and school resource allocation with information about students' academic and mental health outcomes. Job responsibilities include: Conducting descriptive and advanced statistical analyses (including multilevel modeling) on extant and merged datasets using SAS and Stata. Working with large datasets, including merging files into the data archive. Creating clear data visualizations to communicate results (including GIS maps). Assisting with the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and reports based on study findings. Supporting the project coordinator on the qualitative portion of the study (e.g., data organization, coding support, or integration of qualitative and quantitative findings). Collaborating with Dr. Irsheid and team members to support both quantitative and qualitative aspects of the project. Required Skills and Qualifications Proficiency in SAS and Stata. Demonstrated experience with quantitative data analysis, including multilevel modeling. Proven ability to work with large datasets, including merging and managing complex files. Position Summary Our goal is to identify computational principles underlying learning and decision-making behavior and inform our understanding of mental disorders through the study of variation in their neural realization. We aim to translate our computational findings to develop improved diagnoses and personalized treatments for mental illness. To this end, we bridge computational models that target various levels of analysis, including the algorithms (e.g., reinforcement learning models) and their neural implementations (e.g., biophysical models), as well as models of machine intelligence (e.g., deep convolutional neural networks). We test the models' predictions in our empirical studies with human participants (e.g., neuroimaging), as well as through close collaborations with basic and clinical neuroscience/psychiatry laboratories. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CUNY SoM graduated its first MD class in 2020. In addition, the CUNY SoM offers a 28-months Physician Assistant (PA) program to prepare health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. Our mission is 1) to provide access to medical education to talented youth from historically underrepresented in backgrounds in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities and 2) to perform innovative research in community health and biomedicine. The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) was formed through the merger of several basic science departments and represents one of the four departments in the school (Community Health and Social Medicine, Medical Education, and Clinical Medicine). The department plays a critical role in our mission-driven BS/MD program and Physician Assistant program through the teaching of the basic science curriculum and by conducting extramurally funded research. The research agenda of the current members of the department is centered on neuroscience, microbiology and immunology, cardiovascular disease, and oncology. The Research Associate will support neuroscience research projects involving the study and manipulation of neural circuits, advanced behavioral assays, and calcium imaging analyses. Related to these goals, NYCC4H also provides overdose prevention and response training with fentanyl test strips (FTS) and naloxone (NARCAN ) to address substance use disparities in communities in need of such services. Duties and Responsibilities: The Research Assistant will specialize primarily in Community Outreach and Engagement: Outreach: Conducting outreach with community organizations in NYC to create and carry out a community engagement plan. Data Collection: Facilitating surveys to gather community insights. Service Delivery: Conduct engaging and informative training sessions on opioid overdose prevention and response using fentanyl test strips (FTS) and naloxone (NARCAN ). Training will be in English/Spanish, conducted in person at events throughout NYC and remotely via Zoom.
