In 1929 the Jewish Secondary School Movement opened a secondary school for boys in Alexandra Villas, Finsbury Park.

Until 1933, students of high school age in Newington traveled to Hartford or New Britain to attend high school.

1934: School founding date.

Both the last two also had infants' departments, although Wordsworth Road had lost its infants by 1936.

The first senior high graduating class was the class of 1938.

By 1940 improvisation was needed to serve Newington students in already limited space.

Opened 1948 as Jewish JM sch. with boarding dept. at no.

Renamed Clissold SM by 1951.

94) North London College of Commerce, maintained by the L.C.C., was housed in Princess May school by 1955.

In March of 1971, Newington High School students and faculty were in their new home at 605 Willard Avenue.

Moved 1974 from Wenlock Rd., Hoxton, to new bldg. on Wordsworth Rd. sch. site.

Prior to this date the school buildings and facilities had played an important role in the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as the homes of the suburb were built initially to house the athletes who competed at the Games.

In 2001 a steering committee of ‘potential’ parents and community members, underthe leadership of inaugural principal Ms Debbie Lowe, began the task of organising the new school.

Newington Public School opened its doors in January 2002 servicing the new suburb of Newington at Homebush Bay, adjacent to Sydney Olympic Park.

Dr Gapps was the Winner of the NSW Premier’s History Awards 2011 – Community or Regional History, for his book Cabrogal to Fairfield: A history of Fairfield City.

In 2018 our Early Learning Centre for boys and girls opened.
