Newpark company history timeline

1932

In 1932, New Park Mining Company was established as the consolidation of three mining companies: Star of Utah Mining Company, Mayflower Mines Corporation, and Park Galena Mining Company.

From Old-Line Metal Mining to Oilfield Waste Servicing: 1932-70s

1968

To survive, Newpark bought two Louisiana companies in 1968 and got into the oil service business.

In 1968, Newpark entered the oil service business with its purchase of SOLOCO Inc., which built roads to swampy well sites.

1972

In 1972, the company changed its name to Newpark Resources, Inc. to reflect the change in its core business.

1977

1977: The company lists on the New York Stock Exchange; founds Newpark Drilling Fluids.

1981

In 1981, Newpark began its revolutionary oilfield waste service by opening Newpark Waste Treatment Systems.

1985

In 1985, it combined its Louisiana Oilfield Rentals (LOR) with Triumph Drilling Tools, jointly owned by Galveston-Houston and National Lead to form Triumph LOR, Inc.

1986

1986: Newpark divests its interest in Milpark and is delisted from the New York Stock Exchange.

1987

That process culminated in a private financing transaction in 1987, after which only a small public shareholder base remained.

1988

1988: Company reincorporates in Delaware.

1991

Also in 1991, Newpark invested in its environmental cleanup operations.

1991: Company acquires George R. Brown services; completes its initial public offering on NASDAQ.

1995

1995: Newpark moves to the New York Stock Exchange.

1996

1996: Company acquires the marine-related nonhazardous oilfield waste collection operations for Campbell Wells, Ltd.

1997

The company's profits increased to $38 million in 1997.

1997: Company purchases SBM Drilling Fluids Management and reenters the drilling fluids business as Newpark Drilling Fluids.

1998

Then in 1998, oil patch drilling began to dry up, and Newpark suffered a loss of $64 million.

1999

In 1999, it formed Newpark Performance Services Inc., a new operating unit to provide onsite processing, fluid recycling, and waste management as well as drilling fluids.

2000

By 2000, the company was receiving five million barrels of waste a year, and new EPA rules calling for reduced discharges into federal waters were boosting demand for Newpark's services.

2001

Declines in rig activity after July 2001 reduced Gulf Coast activity, however, and these volumes retreated to 3.6 million barrels per year shortly thereafter.

2002

In 2002, Newpark acquired Italy-based Ava Drilling Fluids and Services, and began serving the Mediterranean basin and North Africa.

2010

In 2010, Newpark Drilling Fluids launched Evolution®, an environmentally sound water-based drilling fluid solution to the rigorous operational demands of unconventional shale hydrocarbon development.

2011

In 2011, Newpark acquired Australian-based Rheochem PLC’s drilling fluids and engineering services business, which provides drilling fluids and engineering services to the oil and gas exploration and geothermal industries.

2012

In 2012, Newpark acquired Alliance Drilling Fluids LLC, a provider of drilling fluids, proppants, and related services headquartered in Midland, Texas.

2013

In 2013, Newpark Mats and Integrated Services gained a stronger foothold in the UK and Europe with the acquisition of Terrafirma Roadways, a provider of temporary roadway and worksite solutions to utility, construction, and event customers.

2014

In 2014, Newpark Environmental Services was sold.

2015

In 2015, Newpark achieved several significant milestones:

2018

In 2018,Newpark Fluids Systems expanded its offering to include not only drilling fluids, but stimulation, and completion fluids as well.

2019

In 2019, Newpark Fluids Systems concluded Phase 1 of the expansion of its completion fluids facility in the Port of Fourchon in Louisiana.
