NewQuest was formed in spring 2001 when Alvis and longtime business partner David Klein merged their firm, Quest Properties, with Jay Sears' Sears Realty Co.
Based in Nashville, HealthSpring was built up by G.T.C.R. Golder Rauner, a private equity firm based in Chicago, which in 2004 took control of a predecessor, NewQuest Health Solutions, through a recapitalization.
Prior to acquiring this portfolio, Inland-sponsored companies completed 163 individual property closings for a total of $3.5 billion so far in 2005.
G.T.C.R. took HealthSpring public in February 2006 in a public offering priced at $19.50 a share.
