The only "pro" of working at NYP is the pay can be decent compared to other jobs. But, the pay relative to what is asked of you and what you have to put up with from management... is not competitive or "worth it" by any means.
The cons of working at NYP.... Where do I even start? NYP has been the worst job experience I have ever had in my entire life. Toxic work environment, management is sneaky, lying and passive aggressive. Management is also impossible to get in contact with, especially if you work during the night. For example, I have never met my senior manager face to face.. Not even once. Management will lie to your face about open job positions not being available simply because they would rather hire external candidates instead of transferring internal employees to a different position. Which goes directly against their employee policy of internal transfers taking precedence over external hires.. I have witnessed this happen with my own eyes multiple times now. Employees who have been at NYP for 15+ years (in the same position with zero upwards growth or mobility) are told blatant lies to their faces of why they are not eligible to be transferred simply to a different shift time! Management will then turn around and hire an external candidate with less experience than said employee who has been trapped by management in the same exact position for 15+ years. Management will also block any employee transfers to different hospitals simply because they would rather employees stay trapped in the same exact position for decades rather than aim to help their employees grow and do better for themselves. The way NYP is ran is a disgrace, and if you are looking for a company that has ample possibilities for growth and furthering your career, steer CLEAR of New York Presbyterian hospitals!!!!! New York Presbyterian hospitals also SCAM naïve applicants into thinking they are interviewing for a specific shift type/shift time, and then after the interview they offer said applicant a completely different shift type/time than the applicant applied/interviewed for. For example: You apply for a full time day position with full benefits at NYP and score an interview for said position. The interview goes well, but you don't hear anything back until 2 months later you receive a phone call from a random number offering you a per diem night shift with zero benefits. This has happened to multiple of my fellow coworkers at NYP and seems to be a common predatory tactic used by management to try and scam/coerce candidates into accepting a position they never wanted nor applied for. I would not recommend working at New York Presbyterian to my WORST enemy.
The only benefit of working at NYP is that SOME of your coworkers can be awesome people. About 2% of them.. The rest are toxic and immature, and act as if they are still in high school.
Absolutely nothing. Leadership was impossible to get into contact with if there is something you want to talk about on your end. But, if they want to contact you they will insist you stay after your shift to talk with them.
FIRE all current management/leadership. I have never witnessed such a poor job done by a leadership team. The work environment is so incredibly toxic and management knows this, and continues to do nothing about it. A girl at our hospital was being relentlessly bullied by a specific individual for months, she spoke up to management about it and they reassured her they would talk to the bully and keep the victims name out of the conversation. Management not only let several more months of bullying ensue before talking to this individual privately about bullying, but management also then proceeded to tell the bully who reported them -- leading to even further targeting of the victim who reached out to management for help.
I prepared for an interview by reading the job posting thoroughly and reviewing my own resume to make sure I could sharply and quickly reply to any questions raised about my previous experience.
New York Presbyterian pays less than the industry average and asks employees to do work that is not included in their job position or even their departmental duties. For example, EVS is supposed to handle the transportation of deceased individuals to the morgue. However, NYP aims to cut corners in every facet imaginable and so, has begun forcing emergency department and cat scan transporters to move deceased bodies to the morgue. Which is not listed in their job descriptions and would also most certainly warrant a pay raise.
NYP is not diverse at all, almost every position is filled with an individual who is Hispanic or African American. Diversity goes both ways, having an office that is only about 10% Caucasian is still a disgrace and the opposite of diversity and inclusion.
Absolutely nothing. You are lucky if you find a singular good coworker at NYP, I am lucky to have made friends with several coworkers because the rest are absolutely abhorrent.
