Sets up, adjusts, and operates MRI equipment, selecting proper technical factors to obtain accurate MRI studies; properly positions and immobilizes patients. Responds to patients' needs as required. Maintains cleanliness of equipment and general working area, stocking clinical supplies. Ensures proper operation of MRI equipment. Provides care to patients of all age groups in the form of diagnostic testing. Prior work experience of six months is desired in order to gain familiarity on-the-job with administration of radiologic testing. Should be familiar with most major models of radiological testing equipment. New MRI technicians require period of 30 days in order to orient themselves to techniques and work area. 1. Good analytical skills necessary for handling of MRI patients during administration of diagnostic testing. Must be able to appropriately assess the correct action to take during testing, while being cognizant of patient well-being. Must accurately monitor radiation exposure or potential for electronic shock, etc. 2. Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, perform all required diagnostic MRI scanning procedures with knowledge of all pertinent technical and academic areas to produce consistent high quality examinations. Responsibilities Perform all required diagnostic MRI scanning procedures through proper positioning and technique, consistently demonstrating good judgment in evaluating the diagnostic studies. Screen patient before exam for any precautions or contraindications pertaining to the examination (i.e. pain, claustrophobia, metallic objects, isolation patients, etc.). Obtain and review the requisition for examination to obtain information such as procedure requested, clinical history, patient condition or any other special requirements. Thoroughly explain procedure to be performed to alleviate patient anxiety and facilitate patient cooperation. Monitor the condition of any patient within the department and assist the radiologist in performing needed medical attention, if applicable. Comply with Hospital operational and safety policies and procedures. Comply with Hospital policies, procedures, and emergency procedures, where applicable. Maintain the MRI scanning equipment in good operating order. Clean and disinfect equipment and area after each use. Maintain work area in an orderly manner. Current standards are 24 ECE credits over a two-year period depending on year of birth. ï'· BLS certification through the (AHA) American Heart Association is required or must be completed with 90 days of hire. ï'· IV certification preferred or by completion of 6-months' orientation. ï'· MRI safety certification level 2 required yearly.
