Maimonides Children's Hospital of Brooklyn is recruiting a full-time BC/BE Pediatric Endocrinologist to join its well-established Division of Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes. Our Pediatric Endocrine service includes pediatric endocrinologists, nurse practitioners and a nurse certified diabetes educator. We provide care to a diverse patient population and representing a wide variety of pathology both in outpatient and inpatient settings. Outpatient clinical care is provided in 2 new state-of-the-art facilities.

Maimonides Children's Hospital is Brooklyn's largest Pediatric facility with over 2600 pediatric admissions including 800 PICU admissions. We also have 900 NICU admissions, 6,500 deliveries and 120,000 pediatric outpatient visits. The hospital is a Pediatric Trauma Center, Regional Perinatal Center and a member of the Children's Oncology Group. We have a broad range of pediatric medical and surgical specialists who care for a very diverse patient population. Responsibilities
* Participate in multidisciplinary collaborative care to develop comprehensive treatment plans for patients with a variety of endocrine abnormalities.

Overview

Overview
Provides inpatient care in an acute care setting in collaboration with a physician.

Responsibilities
The nurse practitioner cares for patients on the acute care service, writes orders on same and obtains consents for surgery, blood transfusions and other procedures.
2.* The nurse practitioner may remove chest tubes, epicardial wires, packing, staples and sutures, draw bloods, ABG's, insert intravenous lines, nasogastric tubes, perform suctioning, chest physical therapy, local wound debridement and care.
3. * The nurse practitioner whose practice is based in the acute care setting shall assess the physical and psychosocial status of the patient by means of interview, health history, physical exam and diagnostic tests.
4.* In accordance with medical protocols agreed upon in advance between the nurse practitioner performing these services and the collaborating physician, the nurse practitioner shall evaluate test findings, make an initial medical diagnosis and initiate appropriate action with the continuing health care needs of the patient.
5.* The nurse practitioner shall participate in nursing, medical student and resident teaching.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice nurse with training in both the nursing model and medical model of care. Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) NPs are committed to personalized, high-quality healthcare and are held to the same legal and ethical standards of care as physicians and surgeons. Autonomously and in collaboration with healthcare professionals and other individuals, the NP provides a full range of primary, acute, and specialty healthcare services, including:
* Diagnosing and treating acute and chronic orthopedic conditions and injuries.

HSS NPs serve pediatric and adult patients in an extensive range of practice settings throughout the hospital and its local and regional ambulatory sites. The HSS ambulatory care clinic nurse practitioner works collaboratively with physicians and orthopedic surgeons in the assessment and overall screening of clinic (Medicare & Medicaid) patients undergoing orthopedic surgery. The NP provides the initial assessment to facilitate workflow and expedite throughput and also practices in parallel with his/her physician colleagues. The NP bills for his/her services, when applicable.
The Ambulatory Care Clinic NP role:

This NP position is based near the main hospital, at the Ambulatory Care Center (475 East 72nd Street) in the Upper East Side of Manhattan (New York, NY). This is a full time position, working eight (8) hour days (five days a week), with some potential flexibility.
This position requires a motivated NP who is able to function autonomously within established practice protocols and a collaborative agreement.

The base pay scale for this position is $158,226.13 - $173,976.13. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice nurse with training in both the nursing model and medical model of care. Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) NPs are committed to personalized, high-quality healthcare and are held to the same legal and ethical standards of care as physicians and surgeons. Autonomously and in collaboration with healthcare professionals and other individuals, the NP provides a full range of primary, acute, and specialty healthcare services, including:
Diagnosing and treating acute and chronic orthopedic conditions and injuries.
Ordering, performing and interpreting diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays
Prescribing medications and other treatments
Managing patients' overall care
Counseling
Educating patients on disease prevention and positive health and lifestyle choices
HSS NPs serve pediatric and adult patients in an extensive range of practice settings throughout the hospital and its local and regional ambulatory sites. Their specialty and subspecialty areas include: Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement (ARJR), Anesthesia (PACU/OSCU/SDU), Anticoagulation, Cardiology, Diabetes Care, Intensive Care, Metabolic Bone, Occupational Health, Pain Management, Adult Orthopedics, Post-Operative Care, Radiology, Spine, Trauma, Wound Care, and private practice (physician and surgeon offices).
The HSS ambulatory care clinic nurse practitioner works collaboratively with physicians and orthopedic surgeons in the assessment and overall screening of clinic (Medicare & Medicaid) patients undergoing orthopedic surgery. The NP provides the initial assessment to facilitate workflow and expedite throughput and also practices in parallel with his/her physician colleagues. The NP bills for his/her services, when applicable.
The Ambulatory Care Clinic NP role:
Screens scheduled clinic patients pre-surgically (pre-appointment)
Conducts a history and physical exam
Orders and interprets diagnostic studies (e.g., x-rays)
Prescribes medications
Discusses plan with the patient and family
Routes patients to appropriate services & specialties
Teaches and educates on pre- and post-operative care for surgical patients, becoming an additional resource to patients and families
Triages post-operative clinic patients to determine the appropriate course of treatment
Evaluates and treats clinic patients with conditions related to their recent surgery in collaboration with the patient's attending surgeon
Manages clinic patient concerns and issues (reactively) via phone during the 90-day post-operative period and beyond when related to the surgical intervention
Assesses necessary clinical concerns via physical examination and diagnostic testing
This NP position is based near the main hospital, at the Ambulatory Care Center (475 East 72nd Street) in the Upper East Side of Manhattan (New York, NY). This is a full time position, working eight (8) hour days (five days a week), with some potential flexibility.
This position requires a motivated NP who is able to function autonomously within established practice protocols and a collaborative agreement.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
Three years of related experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited school of nursing
Licensure as an NP and RN in the state of NY
Board certification as an NP (adult or family)
DEA
CPR certification: BLS
Three (3)+ years of related experience as an NP in an inpatient or outpatient setting; experience in orthopedics preferred
Experience with an EMR (preferably Epic)
