Gary Weitman's LinkedIn

Public relations professional with more than 25 years of experience in media, marketing, and strategic communications, who understands the critical role both play in supporting a company’s business objectives, growth, brand and reputation.

I joined Nexstar Media Group, Inc., as EVP & Chief Communications Officer following its acquisition of Tribune Media Company, where I served as SVP and CCO. I am a member of Nexstar’s executive management team, and I set the company’s external and internal communications objectives, strategy and execution. Nexstar is the nation’s largest television broadcaster and owns or operates 197 local TV stations in 115 markets across the country. I serve as the company’s chief spokesperson and I am responsible for media relations, crisis communication, executive communication, employee communication and change-management. I also oversee Nexstar’s intranet and external website, Nexstar.tv.

I act as the Chief Administrative Officer for the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation, successor organization to Tribune Media Company Charitable Foundation, where I served as CAO and as a member of the Board. I oversee the administration and distribution of the foundation’s charitable giving.

I have extensive marketing and media relations experience, especially surrounding large-scale strategic communications efforts. I spearheaded the internal and external communication of Nexstar’s 2019 $6.4 billion acquisition of Tribune Media Co., working with members of the executive teams at both companies to promote the transaction and address the concerns of investors, analysts, government regulators, the media, employees and the public.

In 2013, I led the strategic communications plan for Tribune’s emergence from Chapter 11 and the company’s transition to a new capital structure and management team. Later that year, I spearheaded the communication surrounding the company’s multi-billion-dollar acquisition of Local TV, LLC, including 19 television stations in 16 markets across the country.

Finely-honed skills and experience with executive communication to a wide variety of audiences, including public speaking and presentations, media interviews, investor/analyst meetings/calls, quarterly earnings and employee meetings.

In 2013, I was selected Public Relations Executive of the Year by the Chicago Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Prior to my career in strategic communications, I spent 12 years in television news and management at CBS and FOX.
