He completed his residency training in anesthesiology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1990; he sub-specialized in pediatric and cardiovascular anesthesia, including heart transplantation.In 1994, Dr. Tirotta created and produced the widely acclaimed pre-operative educational video titled, “A Hospital Trip with Dr. Bip”. This program, narrated by the endearing animated character Dr. Bip, explains to young children what to expect when they go to the hospital for surgery. It also includes coloring books and stickers. This program was exhibited at numerous national medical conventions and has sold thousands of copies all over the English-speaking world.Dr. Tirotta is a member of numerous professional societies and has served on a number of hospital committees, including the Heart Program Executive Committee, the OR Governance Council and the Medical Executive Committee; he also chairs the Sedation Council. He previously served as the Co-Chair of the Miami Children’s Hospital Physician Hospital Organization. He is also responsible for giving numerous medical lectures nationally and internationally and is actively engaged in clinical research, publishing multiple manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. He has been the Principal Investigator on a number of clinical drug/device trials, including on the ONQ Pain Buster, the muscle relaxant Zemuron, the procoagulant RiaSTAP, the Cardiotronic NICOM device, the ClearLine, and the long acting local anesthetic Exparel. He is also the Principal Investigator for Merck’s Sugammadex pediatric trial, Pacira Pharmaceuticals pediatric Exparel trial and Pfizer’s dexmedetomidine pediatric sedation trial.

Jackie Gonzalez is a widely regarded nursing leader with a career of innovation and quality/performance improvement in an environment of service excellence and patient/family directed healthcare.



As Senior Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer/Patient Safety Officer for Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Jackie led the MCH nursing team in receiving the 2015 ANCC \'Magnet Prize\' for innovation as the 1st Children’s hospital and subsequently served on the Magnet Prize Committee for 4 years. The nursing department was nationally selected by Press Ganey for \'Excellence in NDNQI and Nursing Quality\'. She led the achievement of ANCC Magnet designation in 2003, the fourth free-standing pediatric hospital nationally and the first pediatric hospital in Florida with re-designation again in 2008, 2013 and followed by a 4th successful designation in 2018. All patient care units achieved ANCC Beacon designation for quality outcomes. She has served on several national councils (Education Council and the MIS Council) for NACHRI (now CHA).

Gonzalez is a contributing book and journal author and speaker. Most recently, Gonzalez published in The Journal of Nursing Quality (in press), “Evaluating the Humpty Dumpty Falls Scale: An International Multisite Study”; February issue of Nurse Leader Journal for “Good for Nurses, Good for Patients: Creating a Healthy Work Environment in a Pediatric Acute Care Setting”; and the May/June 2019 issue of Nursing Economics, “EntrepreNurses: Nursing’s evolving role in innovation strategy.” Select publications include works in the Encyclopedia of Family Health, Leading and Managing in Nursing and in Maternal-Child Nursing. In 2009, her work in patient safety -“Squeaky Clean” - won recognition from the National Institute of Children’s Healthcare Quality (NICHQ).

Noteworthy achievements include selection by the Miami Chamber of Commerce as a Healthcare Hero. In 2007 and 2010 she was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush and Governor Charlie Christ to the Florida Center for Nursing Board of Directors. Ms. Gonzalez serves on the University of Miami School of Nursing & Allied Health's Visiting Committee. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and served on the Fellow Selection Committee. She also served as President of the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives.

Dr. Kini, recipient of Modern Healthcare’s 2013 CEO IT Achievement Award, joined Miami Children’s Hospital as President and Chief Executive Officer in January of 2008. Prior to joining the Hospital, Dr. Kini served as Executive Vice President for Clinical and Physician Services at Trinity Health, the fourth largest Catholic health system in the U.S. He was responsible for physician issues, clinical informatics, patient safety, quality of care, and pharmacy operations at the $5.7 billion health system.
