NiSource CEO and leadership

A longtime utility industry leader, I maintain chief executive responsibility for NiSource, a natural gas and electric utility company serving approximately 4 million customers under the NIPSCO and Columbia Gas brands.

Chuck Shafer is a Chief Safety Officer at NISOURCE INC. and is based in Columbus, Ohio. He studied at Capital University between 1995 and 1997 and Ohio University between 1987 and 1991.

Pablo Vegas serves as Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer & President, NiSource Utilities. He has overall responsibility for NiSource’s gas and electric business segments. Pablo assumed this role on June 1, 2020, after serving as Executive Vice President and President, Gas Utilities since January 2019. In that role, he had responsibility for profit and loss, strategy, planning, operations, construction, engineering, regulatory, environmental services, and training for the seven NiSource gas distribution companies.

From September 2018 to January 2019, Pablo served as Chief Restoration Officer, leading the NiSource restoration and replacement effort in Greater Lawrence, Massachusetts. During the recovery, he was accountable for executing the restoration plan, including pipeline replacement, the repair and replacement of gas appliances for affected customers as well as community and customer support in the region

Prior to leading the Massachusetts restoration, Pablo served as Executive Vice President, Gas Business Segment and Chief Customer Officer since May 2017. He had profit and loss responsibility for NiSource’s Columbia Gas distribution companies in Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia, as well as gas field operations, customer service, billing, sales and marketing for all seven NiSource companies.

Pablo joined NiSource in May 2016 as Executive Vice President and President, Columbia Gas Group.

Prior to joining NiSource, he held a variety of senior executive positions in the regulated utility and consulting industries, including serving most recently as President and Chief Operating Officer of American Electric Power (AEP) Ohio.

Pablo joined AEP in 2005, serving in leadership positions in information technology and finance. In 2008 he assumed the role of President and Chief Operating Officer for AEP Texas, overseeing distribution operations as well as safety, customer service, community affairs and regulatory functions. From 2010 - 2012, he served as AEP's Vice President and Chief Information Officer.

Prior to joining AEP, Pablo held senior leadership positions with IBM, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Andersen Consulting.

He serves as chairman on the board of directors for One Columbus.

Pablo attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School, the AEP Strategic Leadership program at The Ohio State University and graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Shawn Anderson is a Chief Strategy & Risk Officer at NISOURCE INC.. He has worked as VP:Finance & Regulatory Affairs at Columbia Gas of Ohio, Dir:Regulatory Strategy at Columbia Gas of Ohio, and VP:Strategy/CRO at NISOURCE INC.. Shawn studied at Ohio State University - Chillicothe.

Sandra is Vice President & Chief Tax Officer at NiSource leading the tax function for the Company, reporting to the CFO. Sandra actively supports the community in Columbus, serving on the board of both The Center for Healthy Families and Gladden Community House.

Prior to joining NiSource, Sandra led global income tax accounting and income tax forecasting at Walmart, including Walmart, Sams and the Walmart International segments. She set global income tax accounting policy and global income tax controls. Sandra integrated the tax accounting process for acquisitions like Flipkart, Eloquii and Bare Necessities. Sandra has a passion for developing, mentoring and recruiting talent, and actively mentored several Walmart associates, and supporting key diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Before her role at Walmart, Sandra was Vice President, Tax - Exelon Utilities at Exelon. She was responsible for tax accounting, compliance and reporting for seven of the companies SEC registrants - ComEd, PECO, BGE, as well as Pepco Holdings and it's utilities - Delmarva Power, Atlantic City Electric and Pepco. Sandra led the Tax integration for Exelon’s acquisition of Pepco Holdings. Sandra also led Exelon's Finance Diversity Council.

Prior to transitioning to Vice President, Tax for Exelon's Utilities, Sandra served in other roles in Finance at Exelon/Constellation Energy, including as Director, Investor Relations at Constellation during the Exelon-Constellation merger, integrating finance, communication, marketing and securities law compliance to enable effective communication between Constellation Energy, the financial community and other constituencies. She also served as Finance Functional Integration Lead during the EXC/CEG merger, assisting with the integration of the Tax and IR functions.

Sandra enjoyed supporting the Illinois community by serving on the Executive Leadership Council for the Step Out Walk for the American Diabetes Association, serving on the Diversity Advisory Council of the Illinois CPA Society and serving as the President of NABA Chicago for FY2016.

Carlos Ayala is a VP, Chief DE&I Officer at NISOURCE INC. and is based in Missouri. He has worked as Special Assistant, Office of the Secretary of Commerce--US Department of Commerce at Political Appointee- President George H.W. Bush Administration and Director, International Marketing at Payless. Carlos works or has worked as Brand Development |Multicultural at Hallmark Cards. He studied at Davis & Elkins College between 1986 and 1990.
