[SC00] The Tax Analyst will contribute to a variety of functions within the Tax Department, including tax accounting and related tax financial reporting, tax support of regulatory proceedings, tax planning and analysis, and strategic business unit outreach. The Tax Analyst may be required to prepare journal entries and account reconciliations, prepare documentation to support SOX controls, perform technical tax and/or accounting research, draft memoranda to document tax positions, and create spreadsheets to compute taxes or model the impacts of transactions or planning opportunities. This position will report to the Manager, Tax Accounting and be an onsite role at the FirstEnergy Headquarters in Akron, OH. Responsibilities include: Performing various accounting and analytical tasks to support calculation of the income tax provision, including preparing journal entries for monthly and quarterly closing and documentation relating to financial reporting and internal control functions Interacting with the company's independent auditor during quarterly or annual closing and financial reporting Reconciling various tax accounts as needed Compiling and analyzing data necessary to support the preparation and filing of federal and state income tax returns Compiling and analyzing data necessary to support the preparation and filing of various regulatory reports and/or rate cases for the distribution and transmission businesses Supporting financial forecasts by reviewing temporary and permanent book-tax differences impacting segment and consolidated taxable income and effective tax rates, and effectively communicating results Performing research and analysis concerning the technical tax and accounting implications of various transactions, which may include collaboration with the general accounting research team Drafting memoranda to support tax positions Participating in special projects in the Tax or Controller's departments, or representing the Tax department on cross-functional teams throughout the company Taking the initiative to solve problems and bring issues to closure Collaborating openly and honestly as part of a team Demonstrating a continuous improvement mindset Demonstrating a commitment to excellence Acting ethically and with integrity in all aspects of the job Demonstrating a commitment to safety Promoting a diverse and inclusive working environment Qualifications include: Minimum 4-7 years tax experience working in an accounting firm or corporate tax department Bachelor's degree in accounting required CPA or Master's degree in taxation preferred Demonstrated experience with ASC 740 income tax accounting principles; Must be a Tax professional who is inquisitive, possesses excellent organizational and communication skills, and has the ability to adapt to rapidly evolving priorities Strong communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex tax concepts and effectively explain the business impacts to management Critical thinking skills and high learning agility Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), experience with SAP preferred, and ability to learn other company specific applications; Benefits, Compensation & Workforce Diversity At FirstEnergy, employees are key to our success.
