Beginning in 2001, the company went through a period of botched sales and divestment, the first was the proposed sale of 51% stake to a group of investors under the trading name of Investors International London limited, the sale was cancelled after the investors failed to make the final bid price.
In 2002, MTEL which had acquired the assets of MTS, obtained a GSM license.
Subsequently, the government stopped capital investment in the firm and approved a management turnaround contract with a firm called Pentascope in 2003.
In 2014, the firm was sold to NATCOM, a group of investors led by Tunde Ayeni.
