Process Engineers enable next generation components and systems related to semiconductor diodes lasers, fiber optic coupled devices, and fiber lasers. Drive continuous improvement activities in a manufacturing environment for new product development, sustained legacy products, and support production as appropriate and coordinate a wide range of cross functional groups. This position is located in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Responsibilities
Coordinates effectively with cross functional groups (Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality) to drive root cause analysis, yield improvements and cost reduction.
Provides technical leadership and support to customer facing teams for resolving customer concerns and business development.
Leads and executes process development and improvement projects from conception to completion.
Identifies recent external advancements in appropriate technical field and qualifies into production as capable processes.
Supports transition of new products from prototype to volume production utilizing DFSS and DFM.
Drives continuous improvement opportunities and yield metrics utilizing wide variety of analytical techniques (such as SPC, DOE, Gauge R&R), lean manufacturing and six sigma concepts.
Supports manufacturing of released processes and products including generating BOMs and routers, documenting work instructions and support training of personnel.
Evaluates, procures, and qualifies new manufacturing equipment and tools.
Directs daily activities of engineering technicians.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Optical, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Physics) or exceptional industrial experience in closely related technologies.
3+ years of experience in process or product development of laser components, sub-systems, fiber optics, precision optical/electro-mechanical assemblies.
Knowledge and understanding of optical fibers, fiber assemblies and termination, optics, laser diodes and a variety of metrology/characterization/failure analysis techniques.
Hands-on working experience with optical fibers, lasers, optics and precision opto-mechanical systems and tools.
Strong record of problem solving and data analysis through structured methodologies in high order multi-dimensional spaces
Situational leadership skills and ability to work with cross functional & multi-site teams effectively.
Strong command of electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, basic tooling, and fixture design.
Understanding of new product introduction, qualification, and product lifecycle process.
ASQ Six Sigma Green Belt.

Desired:
Hybrid microelectronic packaging experience a plus
Experience with industry standards such as: MIL-STD-883, MIL-PRF-38534, IPC/J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610, ANSI OP1.002.2009, and ISO 10110-7
Background with the following processes and equipment: die attach/bonding, wire/ribbon bonding, vacuum solder reflow ovens, optical fiber alignment, hermetic seam sealing, solder and epoxies, electro-optical, electro-pneumatic and pressurized gas systems.

Position Overview
The Fabrication Process Engineer II plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, quality, and efficiency of manufacturing processes at Hunter Douglas. This position is pivotal in driving operational excellence by developing and maintaining standard work procedures, optimizing processes, and ensuring productive capacity aligns with delivery schedules. The Fabrication Process Engineer II leads multidisciplinary teams, implements effective countermeasures, and supports flawless process launches to achieve organizational goals.
What you'll do
Guide projects and tasks by identifying opportunities through engineering principles to support informed decision-making.
Demonstrate independent judgment to adapt methods for non-routine assignments.
Coordinate multiple small to medium-sized projects concurrently, assigning tasks and ensuring timely completion.
Perform safety process walks, implement countermeasures, and ensure zero accidents due to process issues.
Define and document direct labor requirements and cycle times for each process monthly.
Lead multidisciplinary teams to achieve process target efficiencies and maintain standard work procedures.
Support Level 1 (LV1) process performance, documenting results such as headcount, cycle times, rates, and efficiencies.
Develop and maintain Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (PFMEAs) to prevent poor quality costs.
Conduct weekly process/Gemba walks to ensure compliance with standard work and identify opportunities for improvement.
Validate and approve packaging designs and lead packaging trials in collaboration with the Packaging CoE.
Lead Engineering Change Notice (ECN) implementation and productive capacity studies for current or new processes.
Support best practice projects, LV2 events, and automation initiatives as needed.
Communicate potential risks or major issues to the Engineering Site Lead.

Who you are
Mechanical Engineering degree.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in process engineering (5 years preferred).
At least 1 year of leadership experience in the manufacturing industry.
Project management experience is desirable.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills across all levels.
Effective planning and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
Results-oriented with high attention to detail.
Must be comfortable working from the office for 5 days a week.
Willingness to travel (20%+).
Frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of fabric rolls weighing 50 pounds or more.
Ability to climb a stair ladder to a height of 10 feet occasionally.
