    Job Description Technician Assistant - FT - Geist Indianapolis, IN Facility: Noah's Caring Hands Animal Hospital at Geist Schedule: 35 - 40 hours weekly, Weekends and Holiday Required The Technician Assistant (‘TA') at Noah's Animal Hospitals provides assistance to our veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants through performing essential tasks in patient care as well as important hospital cleaning and disinfection duties. At some Noah's hospitals, Technician Assistants will also provide care for boarding patients, including walking dogs, engaging in playtime activities with the boarding pets, and routine tasks associated with boarding patients. Responsibilities: • Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times. This increasing the efficiency of the medical staff by promptly attending to required duties at all times. • Assist medical team by o Providing safe and gentle restraint of pets for examinations, services, or diagnostics, o Moving pets from one area of the hospital to another as needed to simplify workflow, o Returning pets to their owners after medical exams or boarding stays. o Walking specific ICU patients as directed by medical team to allow urination/defecation opportunities for the pet o Preparing prescription medications under direction of medical team o Process diagnostic samples (specifically blood samples and fecal samples for either in house diagnostics or for outsource labs o Utilizing proper collars and tags for identification - ensure all pets in hospital are properly identified o Scrubbing surgical instruments o Restocking medical supplies as requested by medical team o Observe boarding patients and hospitalized patients for signs of discomfort or other issues that require medical intervention o Provide some medical treatments (oral pills, etc) as directed by medical team • Care for boarding patients o Feed and provide water daily o Clean cage and provide cage “comforts” as dictated by the individual pet's needs o Allow recreation time and daily walks for urination/defecation o Provide and clean litterboxes for feline patients • Have basic understanding about preventative care for pets o While TA is not generally a client facing position, knowing this information can help identify potential problems in pets staying within our hospitals and/or help in the employee's future development o External and internal parasites o Vaccines and infectious diseases of pets, potential for zoonotic disease • Ensure general hospital cleanliness. o Clean and disinfect cages as needed o Clean and disinfect all areas as hospital at least daily or as needed based on patient volume or potential for infectious disease o Maintain laundry through proper washing, drying, and stocking of hospital towels, surgical gowns, surgical towels, patient bedding, etc. • Assist outgoing patients to owner's vehicle and provide gentle, safe assistance into the vehicle. Carry any foods or other personal items for the client. • Maintain accurate medical records, under the supervision of the medical team, by notating o Appetite of pet/thirst of pet o Bowel movements and urination o Behavior and attitude o Interaction with clients if questions are asked and what information was provided • Support other staff members, doctors and administrators as needed. o Maintain effective communication about patients and clients as needed o Work well with all team members and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors, the management, and the practice philosophy. o Assist with answering phones in a cheerful manner; recognize potential emergency situations, place callers into call queue or on hold. • Other responsibilities may be assigned by practice leadership Competencies and work environment: • High School Diploma or equivalent required. • Ability to multi-task- Manages multiple tasks at one time; quickly and accurately shifts attention among multiple tasks under distracting conditions without loss of accuracy or appearance of frustration. • Reads, writes and speaks fluent English, using appropriate grammar, style and vocabulary. The Summer Internship Program runs each summer for the months of June and July. During the typical 6 to 8-week internship, with opportunity for lengthier internships on a case-by-case basis, by request, spending typically 2-3 weeks per hospital location/practice focus. Students will spend their summer experience rotating through our 9 Noah's Animal Hospital locations, with introduction into general practice, emergency, and low-cost community care. Students interning with Noah's will improve technical and diagnostic skills including phlebotomy, catheter placement, intubation, surgical preparation, radiology placement and wound management, while working alongside veterinarians and skilled technical staff. Additionally, our interns receive insight into client communication, triage and diagnostic interpretation, and diagnostic decision making. Noah's Animal Hospitals is privately owned and operated.
