Nor-Cal Beverage Co. company history timeline

1937

Roy “Grant” and Margaret Deary started the Hires® Bottling Company of Sacramento in 1937, producing about 25,000 cases of root beer that first year.

1974

In 1974, the company incorporated as Nor-Cal Beverage Company and soon acquired an old cannery and 43 acres along the deep-water channel in West Sacramento.

1978

Around 1978, Nor-Cal purchased their corporate offices across from their production plant in West Sacramento that remain there today.

1993

In 1993, the company began in earnest co-packing box juices for the Minute Maid division of Coca-Cola.

1998

By 1998, Nor-Cal had established a solid working relationship with Coca-Cola and was approached to purchase its Anaheim facility.

2005

In 2005, Nor-Cal Beverage Co. decided to launch its own Go Girl Sugar-Free Energy Drink line.

2007

In 2007, the board decided to sell its Cadbury Schweppes bottling and distribution rights so that the company could retool to increase its contract manufacturing capabilities.

The company sold off its traditional soft-drink franchises in 2007 and invested the proceeds into retooling several production lines for drinks that today’s consumers enjoy—ready-to-drink teas, ades and juices, fortified and sparking waters, and energy drinks.

2018

In May of 2018, Nor-Cal lost its beloved Donald Deary.

The company officially celebrated in 2018 with employees, family, and friends from both West Sacramento and Anaheim facilities.

2019

Today, 2019, Nor-Cal is still a Deary family owned business, ran by the third generation with the fourth generation not far behind.
