NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking a Research Associate to join the Health Care Research Department. The Health Care Research team conducts work on a variety of health policy topics including patient safety, health information technology, access to health care and the uninsured, health care expenditures, the Medicare program, and public health and emergency preparedness.
Preferably applicants will be based in our Chicago, Il office with a hybrid office/work from home schedule.

DEPARTMENT: Health Care Research
NORC's expertise and ongoing work in health care delivery and financing - including access to insurance, payment and delivery-system reform, benefit design, and quality measurement - advance stakeholders' understanding of policies and programs, facilitate implementation, and contribute to important improvements in cost and quality.
NORC's expert staff has extensive knowledge of all aspects of health care delivery, from private marketplaces and employer-sponsored insurance to Medicare and Medicaid; from large health care systems to small clinics; and from the needs of children to those of older adults, people with disabilities, and ethnic and racial minorities. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide general research support related to health policy research
Conduct literature reviews, statistical analysis of primary and secondary data and prepares memos, tables, and graphs based on findings under supervision of experienced professionals.
Take notes at meetings and prepare initial draft of minutes.
Develop project materials, such as report outlines, visual exhibits for reports, and serving as an editor for deliverables.
Support business development efforts through coordination of document preparation and reproduction.
Under the direction of senior staff, support the development of new business by conducting background research on programs, award history, and agency goals and objectives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university in Social Science, Public Health, Health Policy or related field.
Basic knowledge of the principles, processes, and methods of survey research through reading literature and experience in the field; basic understanding of routine sampling procedures and of quantitative analysis.

As a Design and Characterization Researcher:
Your primary responsibilities will be to (1) utilize computational tools to design and simulate the performance of optical metasurfaces, and (2) perform experiments to characterize the performance of metasurfaces in the optical frequency range. The former responsibility will leverage commercial computational tools to build simulations and develop numerical solutions. In addition, you will be encouraged to help develop independent research and development ideas that demonstrate the potential of new and emerging technologies for groundbreaking applications within the APL sponsor base.
You will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of physicists, engineers, and fabrication technicians to gain deeper insights into sensors, devices, and related phenomena.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you:
Hold a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with at least one year of experience.
Have a record of creatively applying physics knowledge and performing experimental characterization of novel electromagnetic structures.
Possess familiarity with the physics of tailoring electromagnetic fields to control reflection, transmission, and absorption through patterned surfaces and engineered material properties.
Have previous experience with laboratory characterization of optical materials or components using hardware such as Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometers and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrometers.
Write scientific programs in at least one high-level language (e.g., C, C++, Java) or an interpreted language (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
Are able to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret-level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you:

The Emergency Medicine Research Fellowship is an intensive program designed to provide emergency medicine physicians with the training required for development as an independent investigator. The fellowships goal is to train physician scientist to become nationally recognized leaders in emergency medicine research.
I. Goals and Objectives of Training Program
A. General Goals :
1. Develop knowledge and skills in basic research methodology by completion of selected course work at The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health and/or School of Medicine (GTPCI program), coupled with direct tutelage from a research faculty advisor. Other educational venues can be considered on a case by case basis.
2. Design, develop and implement original research projects directed towards addressing clinically relevant problems particular to emergency medicine.
3. Publish articles in peer-reviewed emergency medicine and general medical journals leading to national and international recognition and expertise in an area of focus.
4. Develop skills in grant writing, and acquire grant support from national funding agencies.
5. Serve as a research mentor for emergency medicine residents, rotating Johns Hopkins medical students, and students at the JHU School of Hygiene and Public Health.
6. Assist in the development and promotion of the Emergency Medicine Foundation (EMF) Center of Excellence in Research.
B. Clinical Goals:
1. Develop further clinical competence in academic emergency medicine.
2. Obtain Board Certification in Emergency Medicine.
3. Develop clinical expertise and national recognition in a selected area of acute care, aligned with the fellow's chosen area of research.
C. Research Goals:
1. Acquire competence in basic and advanced principles of research methodology.
2. Learn and refine statistical techniques relevant to clinical research.
3. Define and develop an area of research expertise.
4. Design and implement studies in a chosen area of interest.
5. Develop skills in, submit and acquire institutional, regional and/or national grant support.

D. Teaching Goals:
1. Deliver 3-5 core curriculum lectures each year to the emergency medicine residents.
2. Serve as alongside core research members to organize and oversee the monthly emergency medicine resident journal club/evidence based curriculum, which provides resident physicians with the basic skills required for critical review of the literature.
3. Present research results at Grand Rounds prior to the completion of fellowship training.
4. Provide mentorship to emergency medicine residents working on specified research projects, and assist them in analysis, writing and submission of their work to a national peer-review forum.
5. Supervise the JHU summer medical students' emergency medicine research rotation and/or a medical student focused projects. The fellow's role includes formal didactics, oversight of study design and implementation, and mentorship in medical writing.
6. Serve as a research mentor to Masters level students from the School of Hygiene and Public Health who are pursuing projects relevant to emergency medicine. Fellows will be expected to meet at least goal 5 or 6 (determined by the area of focus, based on guidance from the Fellowship Director.
II. Program Description
A. Faculty:
i. Fellowship Program Director: The Fellowship Director will supervise all fellow functions. The
program is under the administrative guidance of the Chairman of the Department of
Emergency Medicine for non-fellowship related responsibilities.
ii. Role of Other Faculty: Selected Emergency Department faculty will serve as the principal mentors for the fellows. Researchers from faculty outside the Department of Emergency Medicine, who have established track records of successful collaborative investigation with the Department of Emergency Medicine, will function as research advisors as well.
B. Trainees:
The duration of the research fellowship is two years; where previous experience allows, the fellowship can be one year. There will be one fellow at each level.
C. Teaching:
The fellow will have an active teaching role in teaching in a variety of settings (see ID, in ACGME supplement document).
D. Structure of Program:
The research fellow plays an integral role within a carefully planned National Center of Excellence in Research, which was established in 1998 by a grant from Emergency Medicine Foundation (EMF). The goal of the research center is to answer question related to access, utilization, cost, qualify, effectiveness and outcomes for acute and episodic illness. The Center provides an infrastructure intended to train and advance the careers of emergency medicine academicians.
Teaching and training programs integral to the fellowship include:
i.. The summer medical student research training program.
ii. The emergency medicine residency research program.
iii. The emergency medicine residency Journal Club/evidence based teaching series.
iv. A yearly research symposium.
Established investigators from any of the schools and divisions in JHU including the School of Public Health, School of nursing the Division of Infectious Diseases, ACCM, Critical Care/Pulmonology and other relevant departments in the SOM , function as senior mentors/advisors, bringing different orientations and expertise to the Center.
The research fellow is provided with day to day mentoring from designated faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine Monthly progress meetings include the senior advisors, the immediate faculty advisor and the research fellow. Quarterly meetings, provide a forum for the Center Director and External Advisor to critique the progress of the research fellow. Verbal feedback is provided to the fellow at the end of each quarterly meeting; in instances where sufficient progress is not being made, written feedback with a specified plan for remediation is offered.
E. Hours and Supervisor:
The maximum number of hours of clinical responsibility will be 18 hours per week (approximately 800 formal clinical duty hours). Clinical hours may be adjusted depending on the intensity of the research/educational experience. Level of supervision will be determined individually based on the fellows demonstrated level of autonomy. Standing programs to ensure progress, include the bimonthly research meeting, the monthly individual fellow meeting, and the quarterly assessment meeting with the Fellowship/Center Director.
III. Evaluation
A. Trainee:
The fellow will be evaluated upon completion of the first and second year by the Fellowship Director. The participant s performance will be formally reviewed by faculty advisors from both within and outside the Department of Emergency Medicine. Clinical performance will be reviewed by the Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Written feedback, which will be reviewed with the participant by the Fellowship Director, will also include evaluations by all training physicians and students who were mentored by the fellow.
B. Program and Faculty:
Research fellows complete a yearly evaluation form which is reviewed and acted upon by the Fellowship Director. Individual faculty reviews are included as part of this evaluation.

Job Summary:
Dr. Rinad Beidas' implementation science team in the Department of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks an experienced full-time Research Project Manager to join our team, which works on a diverse portfolio of research projects aimed at closing the "know-do gaps" in healthcare delivery, with a focus on improving high-quality healthcare through implementation science. Specifically, the successful candidate will manage a project on our portfolio that involves embedded evaluation of the implementation of an evidence-based care model in the health system. As such they will work closely with our healthcare system collaborators including healthcare professionals, clinical operations, and hospital quality team members.
Responsibilities include overseeing and managing the execution of research projects, including ensuring adherence to timelines and regulatory requirements; managing IRB protocols; contributing to data analysis, interpretation and manuscript preparation; monitoring project progress, identifying and addressing potential issues, and implementing corrective actions as necessary. The Project Manager will prepare and present regular updates on project status, findings, and outcomes to internal teams and project collaborators. We seek someone who can help design and implement standard processes across study components to ensure rigorous study conduct within regulatory parameters. The Project Manager must have prior research experience and be comfortable ensuring high standards of research integrity and compliance. The Research Project Manager will also work with colleagues across our team including faculty, trainees, and staff.
The Research Project Manager must have impeccable organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills as well as extremely strong attention to detail. They must be able to work independently and exhibit good judgement. They must also exhibit strong experience and skills related to communicating with and recruiting research study participants. All applicants must be able to demonstrate familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and web-based applications. Working knowledge of REDCap is encouraged. Experience collecting and analyzing qualitative data is preferred. This position would be ideal for individuals with an MPH or other relevant degree. Individuals with a bachelor's degree will be considered if they have appropriate experience and expertise.
Ensures that all study activities are completed by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) & all current local, state, & federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), & the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH).
This is a hybrid work position, and the Research Project Manager will be expected to work in the office at least three days per week consistent with current team and university expectations.
Specific Responsibilities:
Technical
* Provides complex scientific & technical leadership in determining research priorities & the plan, design & execution of research projects ensuring that programs of investigation meet specified objectives.
* Plans, develops & implements new processes & protocols to support research studies & maximize/extend study capabilities.
* Oversees completion of study activities per protocol.
* Ensures that study protocols are in compliance with appropriate rules & regulations & reviews study progress and recommends revisions, amendments, and/or other study changes as necessary to better meet needs of sponsors.
* Reviews scientific literature & evaluates & recommends applicable techniques & procedures.
Administrative
* Analyzes, evaluates & interprets data to determine relevance to research.
* Assists PI in developing statistical methods & models to analyze & report data based upon study requirements.
* Prepares results & may co-author scientific papers for presentation & publication & disseminates information via seminars, lectures, etc.
* Creates data for use in grant submission & develop new proposals for research including obtaining financial support.
* Acts as liaison between sponsoring agencies, collaborating organizations &/or other research &/or educational institutions.
* Ensures that all study documents associated with current local, state, & federal regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws & research protocols are completed in a timely manner.
Finance
* May create &/or manage research study budget which may include deciding on & approving expenditures of funds based on budget.
* Monitors accounts.
* Negotiates prices & specifications with vendors.
* Purchases supplies, materials, equipment & services.
* Ensures appropriate allocation & compliance.
* Invoices study sponsors for study tests/procedures.
* Coordinates & participates in budgetary negotiations with industry sponsors.
Supervision
* Trains, directs, assigns duties to & may supervise lab EEs, students, residents &/or fellows.
* Acts as a mentor in regard to education of junior coordinators.
Miscellaneous
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
* Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 5 years' research study or other relevant experience required; OR
* Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 3 years' research study or other relevant experience.
* Supervisory or project management experience required.
* Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
* Strong organizational, written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.

* Expertise with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and web-based applications.
* Experience running randomized control trials (RCTs) with support from PI and other senior staff on team.
* Experience drafting and submitting regulatory requirements for RCTs (CT.gov, NIH progress reports, and data sharing).
* Experience drafting and submitting protocols and modifications to IRB.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
* Familiarity with Implementation Science and Applied Translational Research.
* Extensive experience communicating with and recruiting patients and other research participants.
* Extensive experience collaborating with a multi-disciplinary research team.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
* Working knowledge of Qualtrics and/or REDCap.
* Working knowledge of analytic software such as SPSS, SAS, R, and/or NVivo.
* Working knowledge of rapid qualitative analysis approaches.

The Division of Extension and Engagement's Family and Community Health Program is seeking an hourly Academic Wage: Faculty Research Assistant (Bilingual). This is a part-time (0.45 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term position. This position is anticipated to last approximately 10 months or until the end of the grant period.
This Faculty Research Assistant (FRA) position is a member of the statewide team of the Oregon State University (OSU) Division of Extension and Engagement's (division) Extension Family and Community Health (FCH) program affiliated with the College of Health (COH). This position will be located on the Corvallis Campus at Oregon State University and housed within the Hallie E. Ford Center for Healthy Children and Families, and may work remotely with an approved Flexible Work Arrangement Agreement. The individual in this position must be bilingual (Spanish and English).
This Faculty Research Assistant will provide support to the Oregon Child Care Research Partnership in completing a federally-funded grant project and required activities in partnership with the Oregon Department of Education's Early Learning Division. This project is scheduled to end in fall 2026.
The FRA will support a grant project awarded by the Office of Planning Research and Evaluation (OPRE) in the Administration for Children and Families (ACF). Working with the Oregon Child Care Partnership Team, the Research Assistant will work with the project PIs to coordinate and conduct research and evaluation activities that are relevant to, and in partnership with, local and state community partners.

Key Responsibilities
85% Data collection, Management and Analysis
Coordinate and conduct research and scholarship related to grant. These activities may include:
* Work with project team to plan and implement data collection (e.g., focus groups, interviews, surveys), management, and analysis on designated activities.
* Support project management, including scheduling, participant recruitment, and communication with partners and stakeholders
* Lead translation of program materials and data (this requires fluency in Spanish verbal and written communication)
* Assist with data management, including data cleaning, transcription, coding, organizing of data and metadata.
