Summary of the Vocational Coach:
The Vocational Coach assists in instruction and implementation of the vocational program at Hammitt Schools. The Vocational Coach assists students in obtaining their vocational objectives as outlined in their individual education programs. Demonstrates an ability to apply trauma-informed principles and integrates them into daily practice. Communicates effectively and promotes collaborative problem solving by demonstrating care and respect in considering the diverse experiences and perspectives of others.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Vocational Instruction: Assists with planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the vocational education program at Hammitt Junior-Senior High School. Teaches students the skills necessary to be successful on the job in the classroom and through school-based, hands-on instruction. Ensures that each student's vocational instruction addresses the pre-vocational and vocational goals and objectives identified through vocational assessments and by their individualized educational program (IEP).
2. Student Supervision: Provides assistance to students, during in-house vocational tasks in accordance with their individual education programs, and for 8th grade students job shadowing community job sites.
3. Transportation: Transports students between Hammitt Junior-Senior High School and vocational sites within the community for job shadow experiences. Observes state and city speed and safety regulations, agency safety policies, School Bus Driver regulations, including the use of safety restraint systems for driver and passenger(s).
4. Social Skills Training: Instructs students in social skills that relate to his or her Individualized Educational Program.
WORK LOCATION: Hammitt Schools - 612 Oglesby Avenue, NormalIL
WORK HOURS: Full Time, 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, following the school calendar.
COMPENSATION: Starting at $34,125 per year; paid hourly, more based on experience, certifications and education. This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime pay.
Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. Bachelor's degree in education and previous experience in a special education setting with a relevant population preferred.
2. Paraprofessional approval (or ability to obtain upon hire) required. Substitute Teacher licensure in the State of Illinois preferred.
3. Good emotional and physical health, including the physical ability to implement The Baby Fold's approved therapeutic crisis intervention procedures.
4. Must meet the eligibility requirements to obtain a school bus driver license permit upon hire.
5. Ability and willingness to travel for job responsibilities, including a valid Illinois driver's license which has not been revoked or suspended within the past three years, and use of a personal vehicle with adequate insurance.
