1945

In 1945, however, Kletter was taken away from the family enterprise when he joined the Navy.

1956

1956: Tri-City Waste and Sanitation Company is founded.

1961

In 1961, he moved into manufacturing by acquiring Anchorpac, a maker of compactors for the waste industry.

1965

1965: Tri-Pak is formed as a division of Tri-City.

1969

In 1969, it became the first company in the waste industry to go public, when it acquired and merged with Alson Manufacturing, a publicly held, but inactive, corporate shell.

1979

In 1979, ISA acquired Computerized Waste Systems (CWS), a Boston company that managed solid waste and recycling services for companies.

1980

Since 1980, field service centers have been strategically located across North America to provide emergency response services and perform planned work on customer locations.

Since its inception in 1980, Clean Harbors has become the leading environmental and industrial service provider and largest hazardous waste disposal company in North America.

1985

These divestitures allowed ISA to emerge from bankruptcy in 1985.

1986

In 1986, our laboratory chemical packing services, CleanPack®, was formed to provide industries, schools and universities, and communities with vital services to manage the collection, packaging and disposal of laboratory chemicals and household hazardous waste.

1989

In 1989, Clean Harbors purchased Chem Clear, Inc., an industrial aqueous waste treatment company.

1990

1990: Acquisitions and Leadership Changes

1994

North American Industrial Services (NAIS) was founded in 1994 by Frank and Tim Zilka and grew from a start-up to a large regional provider servicing power generation, paper, mining, refinery, petrochemical and industrial clients in the Northeast, Midwest, Southeast and Western regions of the US.

1995

In 1995, it upgraded its facilities, increasing productivity by adding new scrap processing and recycling equipment.

1996

Garber had joined ISA in 1996, coming from a vice-president's position at OmniSource Corp., a metal recycling business in Fort Wayne.

1997

In 1997, the company acquired The Metal Center, a metals recycling facility operated by TMG Enterprises, of Louisville.

1998

In 1998, Clean Harbors formed its Industrial Services division.

In 1998, Harry Kletter, who had led ISA through the more than 30 years since its founding, stepped down from his post as president.

ISA's revenues increased significantly in 1998, jumping up 44 percent from the previous year's.

1999

ISA rebounded in 1999, however.

2000

Evergreen Industrial Services (EIS) was founded in 2000 by Jon Hodges and grew from a start-up to a large, regional provider.

In 2002, Clean Harbors acquired the assets of the Chemical Services Division of Safety-Kleen.

2007

In 2007, Clean Harbors acquired Teris, LLC, with its 550 employees, several field locations, incineration facility in El Dorado, Arkansas, and a treatment, storage and disposal facility in Wilmington, California.

2008

In 2008, the Company acquired two solvent recycling facilities in Chicago, Illinois, and Hebron, Ohio.

2009

In 2009, Clean Harbors acquired Eveready Inc., a Canadian company that provides industrial maintenance and production, lodging and seismic services.

2011

In 2011, Clean Harbors acquired Peak Energy Services, bringing on the capabilities to service oil and gas drilling operations by providing surface rentals and specialized liquid, solid and sludge processing.

2012

In 2012, Clean Harbors made its largest acquisition in Company history with the purchase of Safety-Kleen.

2015

In January 2015, EIS acquired GEM Mobile Treatment Services to expand its services to include vapor combustion, vapor scrubbing, thermal oxidation, water treatment and custom engineered customer solutions.

2016

With over 30 locations, Evergreen North America was formed in June 2016 when The Sterling Group purchased Evergreen Industrial Services and North American Industrial Services to create a national footprint capable of supporting its customers throughout the United States.

2017

Also in 2017, Clean Harbors acquired Lonestar West, further broadening its daylighting and hydro excavation services throughout the United States and Canada.
