Job Summary
The EVP and Chief Retail and Marketing Officer is a key member of the bank's executive leadership team, responsible for leading and aligning the bank's retail deposit operations, customer service functions, and marketing strategies. This role oversees strategic initiatives that drive customer acquisition and retention across both deposit and lending channels. The role carries full P&L accountability and is central to the growth and profitability of a $3 billion national bank with a mix of locally sourced deposit products and nationally sourced lending products. The ideal candidate has a strong leadership background, is adaptable, emotionally intelligent (EQ), and has prior experience in C-Level roles, such as Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Retail Officer, or Chief Operations Officer.
What you can expect to work on
Strategic Leadership & Execution:
* Develop and execute the bank's retail banking and marketing strategy to support overall business objectives, including growth, profitability, and customer experience goals.
* Lead enterprise-wide initiatives focused on customer acquisition, retention, and product penetration across both deposit and lending channels.
* Design and implement strategies to diversify deposit and loan origination channels, including online platforms, niche real estate segments, and referral/repeat business networks.
* Partner with executive leadership to shape long-term strategic direction and optimize P&L performance, including ways to optimize the bank's acquisition costs and cost of funds structure.
Marketing & Brand Strategy:
* Lead the Marketing team in building a national brand strategy, with a focus on digital channels (SEO, content marketing, paid media) and local community engagement.
* Align brand messaging with core banking values, target audience, and regulatory standards.
* Use data-driven segmentation to personalize messaging and offers based on geography, financial behavior, and product need-maximizing ROI on every customer acquisition dollar.
* Identify, evaluate, and build a diversified mix of acquisition channels-including SEO, digital advertising, partnerships, affiliates, referral programs, and relationship-driven sourcing-to reduce dependence on any single channel and optimize acquisition costs.
* Create marketing initiatives aimed at attracting stable, cost-effective depositors-focusing on customer segments that value security, relationship-based service, or convenience over rate alone.
Retail & Deposit Operations Oversight:
* Oversee all customer-facing deposit operations and service functions across local branches.
* Ensure operational excellence and consistent customer experience across branch and digital channels.
* Drive deposit growth through relationship development, effective service delivery, and sales leadership.
Lending Channel Support:
* Support the lending business through targeted marketing, lead generation, and borrower relationship development for Non-QM mortgages and construction/development loan products.
* Collaborate with lending leadership to drive loan volume via national digital channels and relationship-driven sourcing.
* Develop lead generation strategies for Non-QM and construction/development loans targeting borrowers who align with the bank's credit risk appetite and offer higher yield potential.
* Establish strategic alliances and referral networks (e.g., real estate professionals, financial advisors, online platforms) to enhance customer acquisition efficiency and access untapped markets.
Executive Management & Governance:
* Serve as a key contributor to the executive leadership team, actively participating in enterprise planning, risk management, business forecasting, and strategic decision-making.
* Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies across all areas of responsibility.
* Report directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), providing clear and concise updates on the performance of the lending and operations department.
* Present strategic insights and key performance metrics to the board of directors and executive leadership.

Job Description:
This job is responsible for providing specialized and personalized service offering advice and guidance to financial center clients through the full spectrum of borrowing and banking offerings at each stage of client's life plan. Key responsibilities include acquiring new and deepening existing client relationships by conducting client meetings and presenting customized solutions to clients to help them achieve their financial goals. Job expectations include effectively balancing sales performance, operational risk, and client relationship care by leveraging expertise. This position is subject to SAFE Act registration requirements. Pursuant to the SAFE Act requirements, all employees engaged in residential loan mortgage originations must register with the federal registry system and remain in good standing. Since this position requires SAFE Act registration, employees are required to register and to submit to the required SAFE Act background check and registration process. Responsibilities:
Recommends financial advice and guidance that align with the clients' financial goals and needs
Builds and deepens relationships with new and existing clients by leveraging the full capabilities of the bank
Analyzes the client's financial needs and applies knowledge of borrowing and banking to recommend alternative or additional financial services that best align with the client's unique priorities
Connects with clients through outreach and pipeline management activities and conducts consistent follow-up routines to meet client needs
Makes decisions on client requests and makes referrals to appropriate internal partners based on client needs
Partners with financial center leaders, performance managers, and market leaders to provide specialized guidance and coaching to financial center associates during meetings to assist with team delivery of an exceptional client experience
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of mortgage origination experience. In lieu of this requirement, has previously held the role of:
Home Service Specialist II, Lending Client Associate, Lending Client Support Manager, Lending Specialist, Senior Banker, Business Solutions Advisor or Financial Solutions Advisor at Bank of America for 1 year
Knowledge of credit and home lending requirements
Actively listens to the client to determine their needs and goals and has a desire to interact with clients proactively.
Communicates professionally, effectively, and confidently and is comfortable engaging all clients in person and over the phone.
Is a critical thinker and can analyze financial and credit data to advise clients of product/pricing policies and guidelines and gather any additional required information.
Has effective customer service skills with ability to manage the full client end-to-end experience and problem resolution.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Ability to handle ambiguity and adapt to changing circumstances.

About This Job
Are you ready for an adventure? This is an opportunity to be part of a focused development program designed to launch successful careers in Commercial Banking. This position is focused on preparing you to be a successful and productive Commercial Banker in one of Commerce Bank's high growth expansion market in Nashville, Tennessee & Grand Rapids, Michigan.
During the program, you will spend approximately one year embedded with our Corporate Commercial Banking teams in our St. Louis headquarters while also residing in that city. Additional time may be required depending on the applicant's prior education and experience. Once you've completed the program you will be transferred to our Nashville or Grand Rapids expansion market.
You'll work alongside our commercial banking teams and bank executives to help our customers solve their everyday financial needs. Don't have commercial banking experience? Don't worry. Essential Functions
Participate in cross-functional rotations across various business lines to leverage and develop leadership skills while also gaining an understanding of the commercial bank and commercial payments solutions

Collaborate with commercial banking teams and product partners to identify prospective clients' financial needs and add value through a full range of products and services
