* Changes curtains, draperies, and cubicle curtains as assigned.
* Sweeps and mops floor areas, vacuums carpets, spot-cleans carpets, using appropriate solutions, and arranges furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion after cleaning assigned area.
* Requests cleaning supplies and equipment as needed
* Operates various types of cleaning equipment both mechanical and electrical, i.e. buffers, wringers, scrubbers, vacuums.
* Cleans equipment and notifies manager of equipment needing repair. Reports safety hazards to manager.
* Returns unused supplies to janitor closet, cleans carts and equipment, and ensures all items are replaced in orderly manner.
* May climb ladder to hang cubicle drapes, window drapes, or reach high areas for other cleaning purposes.
* May collect waste from all areas of hospital and sanitize all garbage cans.
* May collect or distribute soiled or clean linen.
* May collect hazardous waste as established by Infection Control Committee. Transports infectious waste to a container in the Biohazard storage room.
* Cleans Isolation Rooms after patient has been discharged.
* Arranges furniture for meetings, workshops, and community affairs.
* Cleans morgue after autopsy has been performed, using proper attire and solutions.
* Deals with patients of all ages: neonatal, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
* Must be physically fit to perform job requirements at all times, i.e. back problems where floor washing or bed washing cannot be accomplished.
* May need to work days, evening, nights, or weekends when need arises.
* Deals with patients on a friendly basis as housekeeper may be their only source of visitors besides nursing staff. Conversations must be limited to non-personal subjects and of short term. Must always show a positive attitude to cheer a patient and visitors as well.
