This individual will join the talented and experienced Division of Clinical Genetics which currently includes three clinical biochemical geneticists, four pediatric geneticists, and fourteen genetic counselors. The division is supported by three expert metabolic dietitians, and outstanding nursing and administrative staff. The clinical genetics team works closely with the faculty and staff in the Biochemical Genetics Lab, and the Genetics and Genomics Lab. There are ample opportunities for collaboration with the Children's Mercy Center for Pediatric Genomic Medicine, and the Children's Mercy Research Institute (CMRI). Children's Mercy is affiliated with the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) and Kansas University Medical Center (KUMC).
Job responsibilities include evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with a wide-ranging variety of inherited metabolic genetic disorders, lysosomal storage diseases, and mitochondrial diseases. Children's Mercy is the major referral center for metabolic newborn screening in Kansas and western Missouri. The division of clinical genetics has extensive experience with telehealth services. Teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and other trainees is essential to this role. There are opportunities to collaborate with clinical and basic science researchers. Overview
The Department of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery is seeking a full-time, non-operative musculoskeletal physician to join our program at a top-ranked children's hospital. We are a large team of dedicated professionals who are committed to providing excellent comprehensive care in a supportive environment. Our department includes 11 pediatric orthopedic surgeons and 2 pediatric plastic surgeons with sections of hand surgery, spine surgery, sports medicine, and trauma, one non-operative musculoskeletal physician, and 4 non-surgical sports medicine specialists.
The successful candidate will have completed a residency in orthopedics, rehabilitation medicine or pediatrics with additional training in pediatric musculoskeletal and/or spine. This physician will have responsibility for the evaluation and management of the non-operative musculoskeletal patients, with emphasis on acute injury management.
Academic appointments are available through the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine (UMKC). Children's Mercy Kansas City is the academic training site for UMKC orthopedic residents. We also provide training for rotating orthopedic residents from the University of Kansas - School of Medicine and the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences.

Job Summary

PURPOSE: The veterinary preceptorship program at the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium offers junior or senior veterinary student's unique opportunities in the field of exotic animal medicine and surgery. The preceptor will be incorporated into the daily routine of Zoo & Aquarium veterinary medicine including rounds, animal management orientation, medicine, and surgery. The program is designed for hands-on experience in phlebotomy, anesthesia, medicine, surgery, and various veterinary disciplines in zoological medicine. The Zoo & Aquarium has a 14,000 square foot veterinary hospital and holding building, which includes separate surgery, radiology, laboratory, treatment, and necropsy spaces. It comes equipped with digital radiography, electrocautery, stem cell processing, video laparoscopy, video flexible fiber endoscopy, cavitron, standard 2-deminsional and digital ultrasound, pulse oximetry, ultralow freezer, steam, and gas sterilizers. CT and MRI scanning is also routinely performed through our consultants. The Zoo & Aquarium encompasses over 200 developed acres, making it one of the largest zoological parks in the United States. Students will gain not only experience in the veterinary care of the animal collection, but also the new aquarium complex which opened in 2023. Responsibilities
Models the core values of Caring, Honest, Respect and Responsibility; implements character development and the YMCA core values in all programs and all aspects of center operations.
Continuously scan the pool (every 10 seconds), whirlpool and sauna areas, checking for safe conditions.
Must maintain high level of alertness at all times.
Staff may be videotaped for safety audit purposes and ongoing training.
Will be required to complete 2 hours of in-service training a month.
Position may require environment changes (outdoor to indoor, humid environments).
Will be required to participate in ongoing training that will be held during operational hours (operational mannequin drops, pool safety checks, CPR checks).
Enforce all posted rules and any other rules that are required to ensure the safety of all participants.
Must constantly watch the pool and have a rescue tube, whistle, emergency button, and supplemental oxygen barrier mask ready and available at all times, actively scanning 10 x 10. Lifeguard is not to do secondary duties in place of scanning their zone of protection.
Make sure that the pool deck is free of clutter and perform all maintenance duties assigned by Aquatic Director.
Test pool chemical levels and report changes to Aquatics Director immediately.
Fill out all Y accident and incident reports completely and turn into the Aquatics Director.
Responsible for opening and closing procedures.
Responsible for maintaining the continuity of lap swim and moving participants accordingly.
Must be able to be a team player with all staff.
Must notify appropriate staff of any unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents, or injuries immediately.
Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years of age.
National CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and Lifeguard or Shallow Water certification. Don't have certification yet? No problem - we provide free training and certification!
Perform pass and rescue skills.
Able to work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
Able to pass a physical competency consisting of the following:
300 Yard Swim
Continuous swim demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
Tread Water
Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
Timed Event
Must be completed in 1 minute and 40 seconds.
Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.
Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Spanish-speaking differential: Additional $1.00 per hour for employees who demonstrate and maintain Spanish language proficiency and are willing to use this skill for Wayside Waifs' business purposes.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Behavior Evaluator is responsible for behaviorally testing all canines and entering test data in a timely manner. An important aspect of the job is to provide honest, objective behavioral information when evaluating an animal's mental welfare and to help determine if the animal is a good adoption candidate. Other responsibilities include monitoring and creating strategies for maintaining graduates of Wayside Waifs Canine Behavior Center, and also ensuring our more challenging canine population have current directives and are monitored for signs of stress or regression. The Behavior Evaluator will help educate volunteers, fellow staff members, potential adopters, and the public by promoting positive reinforcement and displaying proper dog handling techniques.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Work within a team to ensure a thorough behavior assessment is completed on all canines 5 months and older entering the shelter.
Distinguish between floor ready canines and canines who may require an extended assessment period or behavior modification.
Ensure each dog has proper signage, walking equipment, and walking directives when needed.
Make recommendations to staff and volunteers regarding canine behavior issues when necessary.
Support the admissions department with canines that pose a safety concern at intake, including entering notes gathered from surrendering or finding parties and notes about behavior on intake.
Monitor the behavior of all dogs in the main building and adjust enrichment and support protocols as needed.
Communicate daily updates of dogs cleared behaviorally to appropriate departments to ensure the best flow through the shelter.
Provide support for adoptions and foster departments through behavior consults, meet and greet assistance, and further training/management recommendations for designated dogs.
Maintain open communication with CBC Trainers about graduates of the CBC, and collaborate on behavior maintenance plans and best practices.
Support the “Ask a Trainer” feature by responding to behavior related inquiries as needed.
Assist, shadow, or teach Public and Volunteer training classes as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ KEY COMPETENCIES
Thorough understanding of canine behavior and body language, especially in a shelter environment
Ability to use safe and humane dog handling techniques for both fearful and high arousal dogs
Ability to work within a team setting as well as independently, and provide and accept feedback in the moment

Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast paced environment
Ability to work under pressure

Requirements

Education
High School diploma or GED
